Mirach Energy to conduct electromagnetic imaging in Cambodian oilfields

Mirach Energy says its associate company, CPHL (Cambodia) Company (CPHLC), intends to engage Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping Inc. (OHM) to conduct electromagnetic imaging technology at its two offshore oil fields concessions in Cambodia.

CPHLC has identified three exploration well targets within Block D in which 3D seismic survey was done. Actual drilling of these wells is expected to take place in the second quarter of 2011.

America’s Senate ponders whether the Lockerbie bomber was set free on grounds of compassion or commerce

• AMERICA’S Senate is set to open hearings on July 29th addressing the possibility that lobbying by BP played a pivotal role in the decision made by British and Scottish governments last year to release Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the only man to have been convicted for the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over the town of Lockerbie. The officials who were most involved in the decision to grant Mr al-Megrahi his early return to Libya, where he was treated to a hero’s homecoming, flatly deny that Britain had cut a deal to help British firms secure oil deals with Muammar Qaddafi. They insist that he was let home on compassionate grounds, after being diagnosed with cancer.

• A VERDICT in the trial of Kaing Guek Eav, or “Comrade Duch”, to be handed down on Monday the 26th, is likely to represent the first conviction on war crimes handed down to any member of the Khmers Rouges, who ruled Cambodia with unprecedented brutality from 1975-79. Duch was not among the regime’s highest rank of political cadres, but for his role in presiding over S-21, or Tuol Sleng, a notorious torture prison in Phnom Penh, he has become one of its most emblematic figures. His 16-month trial before a UN-backed tribunal, which has descended into disarray in its final months, was supposed to establish a model for the prosecution of the other surviving leaders of the Khmers Rouges. …

Moya Dayen wins second contract from Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority worth $51m

Catalist-listed Moya Dayen has been awarded a contract worth US$36.46 million ($50.8 million) by Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) in Cambodia for Part B of Phase 1 of the Niroth Water Production Facilities Project.

Under the deal, Moya Dayen will build the Niroth Water Production Facilities — Phase I, which comprises two contracts — Part A and Part B.

On Sunday, June 13th, various All-Star musicians converged on stage at The Great American
Music Hall to benefit the Seva Foundation. The
cast of characters included Steve Kimock, Mark Karan, Billy
Kreutzmann
, Melvin Seals, Papa Mali, Lebo, Dave Brogan,
Bo Carper, Reed Mathis, Matt Hubbard, special guest Bobby
Vega
and Wavy Gravy himself.

The evening started off with a set by Lebo, Carper and Brogan performing “Spike Driver’s
Blues”, “Pallet on your Floor” and Old Crowe Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel” joined by Karan & Seals. The band played
on for a Dave Brogan tune “Infinite Eye” before Vega joined in for a soulful offering of Allen Toussaint’s classic “On
Your Way Down”.

Steve Kimock then took the stage with Vega, Seals & Brogan for an epic version of
the Zero fan favorites “Cole’s Law” > “Tangled Hangers”. The first set then closed with a
ripping rendition of Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited” featuring Karan, Lebo, Brogan, Kimock,
Seals & Vega.

Set two featured 7 Walkers: Papa Mali, Billy Kreutzman, Steve Kimock, Reed Mathis and Matt
Hubbard along with a variety of the aforementioned musicians joining in a setlist that
included “Jam” >
“Sugaree”, “He’s Gone”, “Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues”, “Bertha”, “Jump Back”, “Mr. Charlie”
and “Lovelight” amongst others.

Seva Foundation was founded in 1978 by a group of people who helped eradicate
small pox,
and inspired by that achievement, joined together to alleviate other suffering caused by
poverty and disease. Seva’s public health programs in India, Nepal, Tibet, Cambodia
Bangladesh and Tanzania work to eliminate curable blindness. Over two million people have
received sight-restoring surgeries. In Mexico and Guatemala Seva assists indigenous
communities with training and resources to attain literacy and economic self-sufficiency.
In the United States, where diabetes claims Native American lives at four times the
national average, Seva offers diabetes prevention and small grants programs, created and
directed by Native Americans.

Wavy Gravy, activist clown, former Ben & Jerry’s flavor, hippie-icon, flower-
geezer, is a
founding board member of the Seva Foundation. He is the creative director of Camp
Winnarainbow, a circus and performing arts camp in Northern California.


Moya Dayen wins $19m deal from Phnom Pehn water supply authority

Moya Dayen has signed a US$13.38 million ($18.8 million) contract with Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) in Cambodia to build of an 25 metres high intake tower located in the Mekong River, a raw water pumping station with a capacity 135 million litres per day and a raw water transmission main connecting the station to the water treatment plant site as well as other ancillary works. The contract is scheduled to start in June 2010 and is expected to take 30 months to complete.

Singapore sand demand damages Cambodia environment, says Global Witness

Singapore’s thirst for sand to increase land reclamation and construction is driving an ecologically damaging sand-dredging industry in Cambodia, according to a report by a non-governmental organisation. London-based Global Witness said on Tuesday that Cambodia’s sand-dredging industry threatened endangered species, fish stocks and local livelihoods, despite the government’s May 2009 ban on sand-dredging.

Dayen Environmental posts lost of $5.53m for FY09

Dayen Environmental says it recorded a revenue of $35.5 million and loss attributable to shareholders of $5.53 million for the financial year ended 30 September 2009.

The group says revenue for the year ended Sept 30 2009 increased by 20% from $29.53 million for the financial year ended Sept 30 2008 as compared to $35.5 million for the year ended Sept 30 2009. The increase was due to several key projects in Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Cambodia and Singapore being significantly completed for the financial year ended Sept 30 2009.

Brangelina ‘gave over $6.8mn to charity in 2008’

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reportedly contributed a whopping 6.8 million dollars to charities in 2008.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, which has obtained a 2008 tax return for their Jolie-Pitt Foundation, the amount is double of what they donated in 2007, reports Us magazine.

According to a 2008 tax return for the Hollywood power couple’s Jolie-Pitt foundation — obtained by The Hollywood Reporter – the couple gave $6.4 million away — more than double what they gave just a year before.

Dayen Environmental, CDW Holding issue loss warnings

Dayen Environmental says group expects to report a loss for  for the full year ending 30 September 2009 (FY2009) due mainly to a reduction in the claimable portion of billings and higher costs pertaining to a project in Cambodia.

The group also recorded an impairment pertaining to an associate, Pizhou Water Holdings Pte Ltd (Singapore) as well as a revaluation loss from its investment in PT ATPK Resources TBk.

Meanwhile,CDW Holding Limited also says the group is likely to report an operating loss for the nine months ended Sept 30, 2009 although it should report an operating profit for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2009.
