It’s with heavy hearts and eternal optimism for the future that we announce the cancellation of STS9′s Winter Tour 2011 dates in February 2011 and March 2011 while our brother, friend and bass player David Murphy will begin undergoing timely and necessary cancer treatment following STS9′s Mayan Holidaze performances this weekend. Below you will find a note from David himself he wanted you all to readÂ…

Greetings Family,Friends and Fans,

I’m writing to share with y’all some news I’ve received recently. I have just been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor primarily in my sinus cavity (a type of internal skin cancer). It will require an extensive surgery followed by a few months long recovery periods. There will be some treatment for the cancer following also but at this time we aren’t fully aware of what that will entail and at this time we are just focusing on the task at hand which is the surgery.

With this news comes a bit of bad news for our upcoming shows. We will have to cancel all of our upcoming shows in Feb and March in order to fully get after taking care of this little health issue to the fullest, and we will do just that. There is nothing more in the world I love than playing music and sharing it with all of you and we will continue to do it for a long time together and all I ask for is y’all’s thoughts and prayers during this time of recovery!

We will still be performing in Mexico this weekend before my upcoming surgery, so for y’all down thereÂ….

Let’s do thisÂ…. Boom!

Rodrigo y Gabriela issued the following statement on their website today:

Rodrigo y Gabriela are deeply saddened to announce the cancellation of their forthcoming United States October tour.

After a year of relentless touring, the wear and tear finally caught up with Gabriela. Her incredibly physical style of play involves banging out complex rhythms on the neck and body of her guitar night after night, putting great stress upon her right hand and arm as well as joints like the wrist and elbow. It is under doctors recommendation that she rest her joints and muscles to avoid further harm and permanent damage. While the duo is incredibly frustrated to have to pull out of dates in cities they were very much looking forward to visiting for the first time, the move was an unavoidable reality that had to be made in order to ensure that Gabriela fully recovers and is able to play at full capacity for many years to come.

Rodrigo y Gabriela hope to return to the cities affected by the tour dates in the future and are grateful for their fans continued support and understanding.

Los Lobos Cancel Arizona Performance

SHOW AT TALKING STICK RESORT CANCELLED IN RESPONSE TO SB 1070 IMMIGRATION

Grammy Award winning roots-rock band Los Lobos has decided to cancel their scheduled performance at The
Talking Stick Resort
on June 10, 2010. The band has made this decision based on the current call to boycott
Arizona in response to SB
1070.

Through their management, Los Lobos issued the following statement:

Â“We support the
boycott of Arizona. The
new
law will inevitably lead to unfair racial profiling and possible abuse of people who just
happen to look Latino. As a
result, in good conscience, we could not see ourselves performing in Arizona. We regret
the inconvenience this may
have caused the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Casino Arizona, Talking Stick
Resort and our fans, but
we feel strongly that it is the right thing to do.Â”

The members of Los Lobos are Steve Berlin, David Hidalgo, Conrad
Lozano, Cesar

The Flaming Lips have cancelled their appearance at SunFest in West Palm Beach and the Memphis in May festival in Memphis after multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons. Other shows may be cancelled as a result.

Drozd tweeted about his
hospitalization, saying “Thank you, everyone, for your concern. I had to do this and I’m getting it together.”

Due to Iceland volcano eruption Obama to cancel Poland trip

Allman Brothers Band Cancel NYC Shows

The Allman Brothers Band shows scheduled for March 22-27 in New York City have been canceled. An announcement on the band’s website didn’t give much information; simply saying that the cancellation was “due to an unforeseen family matter.”

The shows scheduled for March 11-20 at the United Palace are still set to take place.

Adam Yauch Has Cancer: Beastie Boys Cancel Tour

Beastie Boys tour dates cancelled; album release postponed

Adam Yauch diagnosed with parotid gland tumor

Beastie Boys have today (20 July) issued the following statement:

Adam “MCA” Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch’s vocal chords. Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances to allow time for Yauch’s surgery and recovery. The release of the band’s forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will also be pushed back.

Paraphrasing from a video statement on Beastieboys.com, Yauch said, “I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we’ll release the record and play some shows. It’s a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later.”

A statement from EMI reads: “Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Adam Yauch, his family and the Beastie Boys. The most important thing is to allow Adam to focus on staying healthy. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.”
