Candidacy realistic in 2011, says EU official

EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule told B92 that it was realistic to expect that Serbia would receive EU candidacy status by the end of 2011.

However, he said that the date would depend on the quality of Serbia’s answers to the questions in the EC questionnaire.

EU commissioner gives PM questionnaire

EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele has given the EC questionnaire to Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković in Belgrade this Wednesday.

Slovak FM on Balkans: No quick solutions

All countries of the Western Balkans should focus on achieving reforms instead on “bidding the dates” of the accession to the EU, says Miroslav Lajčak. The Slovak foreign minister told Belgrade daily Večernje Novosti that Serbia’s candidacy status request, submitted in December, is yet to be discussed.

Bildt: EU integration progress in spring

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said that Serbia’s demand for candidacy status could be forwarded to the European Commission in the spring. “We are witnesses to certain progress made by the Western Balkans which is now moving faster…Of course, there are still open questions, that were expected, but I believe that the situation is better now than six months ago,” Bildt told daily Večernje novosti.

EU informed about Serbia’s bid

The Spanish EU presidency in Brussels has informed representatives of EU states about Serbia’s request to receive candidacy status for admission to the EU. A short information about the Serbian candidacy was presented at the meeting of the EU Western Balkans Committee and the EU Permanent Representatives Committee.
