CA is continuing its aggressive push into cloud computing with the acquisition of 3Tera, whose AppLogic product makes it easier for businesses to configure and deploy applications and virtual servers in a cloud environment. CA Builds Up Cloud Capabilities with Oblicore Acquisition

CA is buying Oblicore, whose software bridges the gap between SLAs and infrastructure performance, key requirements as businesses begin to adopt cloud computing. Oblicore is the latest such company to be bought by CA; the company acquired some of the assets of Cassatt in June, then followed that with the acquisition of NetQoS in September.

AMD is rolling out its ATI Radeon HD 5800 graphics cards, which officials say are the most powerful processors ever at 2.72 teraflops and will support Microsoft’s DirectX 11, which will ship with Windows 7. The new cards are the latest push by AMD to establish itself as the top graphics vendor, and come as rival Intel is demonstrating its graphics chip code-named Larrabee at IDF.

CA is buying NetQoS for $200 million with the expectation that the company will enhance CAs manage capabilities in systems, networks, application performance and cloud computing. CA officials are expecting to combine NetQoS offerings with its own Spectrum and Wily products.

Riverbed is rolling out Steelhead Mobile Controller-Virtual Edition, a software-based version of its WAN optimization appliance that makes it easier for SMBs to adopt the capability. It also helps larger enterprises that may have a small number of mobile workers. The pricing for the software also makes it more attractive to SMBs. Riverbed also is doubling the capacity of its Steelhead Mobile hardware appliance and offering Lotus Notes acceleration for mobile users on its Steelhead appliance.
