Week Ahead Comment Dec 14: Cautious market

THE STRAITS TIMES Index advanced 0.4% last week, closing on Friday at 2,800.75, on news that Singapore’s economy could grow faster than expected next year on a rebound in manufacturing and private spending. A Monetary Authority of Singapore survey revealed that GDP may expand 5.5% in 2010. Analysts and investors are still on tenterhooks, though. “The STI may touch a new 2009 high before the year is over, but it won’t be a fantastic number because investors are still a bit apprehensive after the strong gains over the past months,” an analyst was quoted as saying on Dow Jones Newswires.
