Pair of Wilson Cell Phone Boosters Solve Poor iPhone Reception on ATandT
During CTIA, eWEEK Labs invited Wilson Electronics to our San Francisco offices to see if it could solve the iPhone and AT&T conundrum: how to deliver a reliable cell phone connection to a class A building in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Wilson provided a pair cell phone boosters: the $140 Sleek Cell Phone Signal Booster, designed for use in a car; and the $300 SignalBoost DT Desktop, which serves multiple cell phones in a small home or office. The Sleek unit delivered about 10 dB signal boost to a single iPhone, making it possible to place a call& a 100 percent success rate, compared with the 30 percent success rate without the boost. But the antenna has to be close to the outdoors or a window, or the Sleek doesn’t seem to help much. The DT Desktop, on the other hand, boosts signal up to 50 db to several phones within 10 to 25 feet of the desktop antenna. Just beware of the oscillation from a misaligned unit. INSIDE MOBILE: How to Stop Cell Phone Calls from Automatically Going to Voice Mail
Cell phone calls often get routed to voice mail, even when the recipient’s cell phone is on and its service signal strength is high. Often, the network didn’t complete the calls due to congestion so it automatically sent the calls to voice mail. But, as Knowledge Center mobile and wireless analyst J. Gerry Purdy explains here, this process can be replaced by a level of network intelligence that allows important cell phone calls to be completed even if it takes some time for the network congestion to be reduced. – Here’s a common situation: You’re holding your cell phone and, all of a sudden, you see a notification that you have a voice mail. You think that’s strange since you had the cell phone right there in your hand and didn’t see any call coming in. You listen to the voice mail and then you call the pers…
