Thaci party winner, show preliminary results

The Kosovo Central Election Commission announced on Monday the preliminary results of the elections in Kosovo.
According to this, Hashim Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo won with 32.4 percent of the votes.

Data out on central bank reserve, public debt

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) foreign exchange reserve increased by EUR 340.5mn in December to reach EUR 10bn at the end of 2010. The net reserve, which is the total reserve minus the required reserve for the banks and the funds received from the International Monetary Fund, stood at EUR 5.1 billion on December 31.

Central bank buys hard currency

The Serbian dinar (RSD) has continued to strengthen against the euro for the seventh consecutive day. On Tuesday its value increased by 56 paras, thus setting the official middle exchange rate at RSD 104,3460, announced the National Bank of Serbia.

Central bank increases key policy rate

After reviewing current economic trends, the NBS Executive Board today announced it had raises the reference interest rate from 11.5 to 12 percent. The central bank’s board considered the fact that inflation exceeded the upper end of the target range and that further restrictions of monetary policy are needed in order to contain inflation pressures driven by the rise in regulated prices, inflation expectations, food prices and the price of oil on the world market, a statement said.

Two dead in car crash in central Serbia

Two persons died and one was seriously injured in last night’s car crash at the Ibar highway near the town of Ušće.

Central bank hikes key policy rate

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Executive Board voted to raise the key policy rate by one percentage point to 11.5 percent. In making this decision, the Executive Board took into account the need to contain inflationary pressures stirred up by the rise in agricultural product prices, regulated price growth and the effects of past depreciation of the Serbian dinar.

Murder-suicide in central Serbia village

A man has stabbed a woman to death and then killed himself by ingesting poison in a central Serbian village, said reports. Police in the town of Kraljevo said the 47-year-old first inflicted deadly injuries to his 45-year-old victim, and then killed himself.

Singapore central bank warns of overborrowing risks

Singapore banks are well capitalised and household debt is low relative to assets but the current low interest rate environment could lead to excessive borrowing by individuals and firms, the city-state’s central bank warned on Thursday.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in its annual Financial Stability Review also said Singapore banks are well capitalised and should have little difficulty meeting the new Basel III requirements.

Property firms down on China’s central bank move

Shares of Singapore-listed property firms with exposure to the China market fell in morning trade on Monday after the Chinese central bank raised bank reserve requirements.

At 10:05 a.m., shares of Hong Kong Land <HKLD.SI> and City Developments <CTDM.SI> were down more than 2%, while CapitaLand <CATL.SI> and Keppel Land <KLAN.SI> fell nearly 1%.

“The move caused the China stock market to drop and this affected the property counters,” said a local trader.

China ordered lenders on Friday to lock up more of their money at the central bank for the second time in two weeks, stepping up its battle to pull excess cash out of the economy before inflation has a chance to take off.

Series of earthquakes in central Serbian town

A series of earthquakes described as aftershocks hit Serbia’s central town of Kraljevo yesterday and early on Friday. No one was seriously hurt as a 4.4 Richter scale earthquake hit at 22:09 CET last night, and another, measuring 3.9 degrees, at 06:40 this morning.
