Chip Shot: Intel AppUp(SM) center Now Available through Walmart

App lovers can now go to Walmart.com to download applications from the Intel AppUpSM center. Whether you’re in the mood for some home cooking, social networking or new twists on classic games, the Intel AppUp center is home to tons of fun netbook and consumer laptop apps, including Angry Birds, Boxee, Mashable and Facebook for AppUp. Launched at IDF last year, the app store is also available through Best Buy, Best Buy Canada, Future Shop, Dixons, Asus, Croma, HSN, New Egg and TigerDirect.

Chip Shot: Aviator or Rimless? Sunglass Shopping Made Social

Powered by Intel technology, Sunglass Hut’s in-store digital sign program, ‘Social Sun,’ will help consumers choose sunglasses by allowing them to take photos while trying on merchandise; they can then share the pictures with friends via social networks and e-mail. Chip Shot: LeBron James Scores, Intel Gets an Assist

Intel is teaming up with basketball star LeBron James — not on the court, but on the Internet. The Miami Heat forward and reigning NBA most valuable player is launching a new animated family show, “The LeBrons,” which is planned for a spring debut on its own YouTube channel and James’ website, lebronjames.com. A portion of the proceeds from the series will be used to purchase HP computers powered by Intel® Core™ processors, to be donated to Boys & Girls Clubs of America in support of its education initiatives. As a lead technology sponsor, Intel provided technology enabling the development and production of the show, which over the course of 10 episodes will relay a series of positive, family-friendly messages.

Chip Shot: Ad Platform Drives Revenue Opportunities for Intel AppUp(SM) Developers

Intel AppUpSM developers now have more opportunities to generate revenue through the availability of Mojiva, Inc.’s mOcean  Mobile advertising component, which delivers in-app ads for apps in the Intel AppUpSM center. mOcean Mobile will target all platforms and devices where the Intel AppUp center is supported. Through the mOcean Mobile Ad Exchange, app developers will be able to choose ad feeds from Mojiva’s Ad Network, or any other participating Ad Network. This launch helps lay a solid foundation for monetization, as the Intel AppUp center expands beyond netbooks to other mobile devices in the future.

Powered by the Intel Atom processor, all cardiovascular equipment in the gym features a 15-inch touch-screens which runs TV and on-demand shows. The equipment also has iPod/iPhone connectivity and personalized fitness trackers. By upgrading the gym’s fitness equipment, which will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Intel aims to encourage employees to exercise regularly while improving overall health and well being. OCZ Exits DRAM Chip Business to Focus on SSD

Noting the decline in memory prices and revenue, OCZ Technology has accelerated plans to exit the DRAM business altogether by the end of February. – OCZ Technology will withdraw from the memory business altogether to focus on
its solid-state-drive business, the company said, as part of its fiscal 2011 third-quarter

STI down 0.1%; buy blue chip laggards -Julius Bar

Singapore shares are down 0.1% at 3239.68 with 1.27 billion shares traded worth $1.06 billion, suggesting that lower liners are seeing the lion’s share of interest; the most active stock remains Bio-Treat (B22.SG), flat at $0.050.

Directionless, rangebound trade looks likely to persist, with few solid cues from offshore, while the benchmark remains above 3220 support, and below resistance at 3250, 3280 and 3300.

Intel, Nvidia End Litigation, Sign New Patent Agreement

The chip makers forgive their past dispute and sign a new long-term licensing contract that brings "patent peace" to their corporate relationship. – Chip makers Intel and Nvidia, which in recent years have been on edge

Following its introduction at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show, the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family is being met with praise and recognition from leading publications and was named Best of CES by CNET, LAPTOP Magazine, PC Magazine, Notebooks.com, and others. The processors also received editors’ choice awards from Popular Mechanics and Hot Stuff and Best of Show from Gizmodo. On “In Defense of Data,” an online forum aimed at improving data security, Intel Chief Security Officer Malcolm Harkins argues that prohibiting employee activities in an effort to increase laptop data security is pointless. Instead, businesses should “embrace risk,” encourage employee-owned computers, social media access and mobile computing. Personal responsibility and technology – encryption, back-ups and new antitheft technologies – will protect the data.

Imagine the possibilities as a person approaches a digital sign equipped with Intel® AIM Suite capabilities. This software can – totally anonymously – gather basic viewer demographics such as age range, gender and the amount of time a person spends looking at the sign. By analyzing the data in real-time, the software can change the content of signs to align with the viewer’s demographics, meaning consumers can see more targeted, relevant advertising and advertisers can gather more accurate data for tracking return-on-investment. IM Flash Technologies (IMFT) was recognized by Electronic Design News (EDN) editors as one of the Hot Products of 2010 for its development of 25-nanometer, 3-bit-per-cell NAND flash memory.  The joint Intel-Micron development work produced the industry’s highest capacity, smallest NAND chip introducing higher cost efficiencies and storage capacity for the competitive USB, Secure Digital flash card and consumer electronics markets.
