Plantronics InstantMeeting Promises Easy Conferencing to Android and BlackBerry

Plantronics InstantMeeting promises Android and BlackBerry smartphone users one-click connections to conference calls hosted through popular conferencing services such as Cisco WebEx or Microsoft LiveMeeting. Unfortunately, the app sometimes fails to gather the necessary information needed to make the connection& like the meeting ID& forcing manual user intervention. Those often using conference providers known to work with InstantMeeting may enjoy the app, but others attending meetings hosted by a variety of conference providers will find InstantMeeting a redundant waste of time. InstantMeeting is available from Blackberry App World and the Android Market for $2.99. I’d recommend trying the free trial version first, as it can connect a maximum of 20 conference calls, to see if it works for you. Facebook Chat Taps XMPP to Connect with AIM

Leveraging the same Jabber/XMPP protocol behind such services as Google Wave and Cisco WebEx Connect IM, Facebook’s Chat application now works with outside instant messaging applications such as AOL Instant Messenger. This means users can bring their friends from Facebook Chat to AIM, and other services without touching Facebook.com. This affords users the flexibility of taking Facebook Chat contacts they might not have on AIM or other IM clients and port them to those legacy clients rather than create new and separate buddy lists.

social network said Feb. 10.

Google Storage Price Cut Shows Cloud is Competitive, Maturing

Google slashed the costs of hosted storage for its Picasa and Gmail applications, offering 20 gigabytes (GB) of storage for $5 per year, or twice as much for one quarter of the previous price. Will users begin entrusting more e-mail and photos to Google server farms? It’s hard to say, but certainly cutting storage costs for its Picasa photo-sharing and Gmail applications is a sign the cloud computing market is maturing. Was the cost cut a competitive gesture? Google’s cut came one days after Cisco Nov. 9 launched its Cisco WebEx Mail hosted e-mail app for $3.50 per user per month with 5 GB of storage.
