The Plantronics Voyager Pro UC provides heavy callers with an excellent way to use the same Bluetooth headset for both cell phone- and PC-based unified communications systems. eWEEK Labs tested the Voyager Pro UC WG200/B, which comes with an earpiece and a pre-paired Bluetooth dongle. What`s Hot in Unified Communications, VOIP for 2010

With enterprises looking for ways to save money, demand for unified communications and VOIP technologies is expected to grow rapidly. Gartner is predicting the unified communications and collaboration market will reach $7.4 billion by the end of the year, a 22 percent jump over 2008, and that HD-based video meeting solutions will replace 2.1 million airline seats annually by 2012, at a cost of $3.5 billion to the travel and hospitality industry every year. A host of companies, from Microsoft, IBM and Cisco Systems to Siemens Enterprise Communications, Alcatel-Lucent and Avaya, are looking for ways to expand their reach in the field. Hamid Akhavan, currently the chief operating officer at Deutsche Telekom and CEO of T-Mobile International, will take over as CEO of Siemens Enterprise Communications, a joint venture of Siemens AG and a U.S. private equity firm. The company sells telecommunications products and services.

Cisco Says Visual, Communications Apps Are Driving Broadband Traffic

In a survey of more than 20 top service providers, Cisco Systems finds that video and other visual applications now constitute 30 percent of traffic running through service provider networks, feeding into Cisco’s assertion that such visual apps will dominate networks by 2013. Malaysia’s Maxis hires banks for US$2b IPO: sources

Maxis Communications, Malaysia’s top mobile operator, has chosen Goldman Sachs (GS.N), Credit Suisse (CSGN.VX) and CIMB (BUCM.KL) to advise the firm on a planned US$2 billion ($2.87 billion) listing in Kuala Lumpur, two sources told Thomson Reuters today.
