10 Things Apple`s Mac OS X Needs to Stay Competitive

Apple’s Mac OS X has enjoyed unprecedented success in the marketplace over the past few years. The operating system that was once considered the also-ran is now a viable alternative to Windows. It has become such a great operating system that some of the design ideas Apple has incorporated into Mac OS X has possibly inspired features in Windows and Linux. Needless to say, Mac OS X is a well-respected OS.

But that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Mac OS X has several areas that are in desperate need of attention. The operating system doesn’t have social elements. Third-party software support is still light years away from where it should be. The operating system just isn’t providing the full end-to-end solution that both consumers and the enterprise are looking for. And it’s incumbent upon Apple to get working on improving the operating system so it can adequately address the desires of today’s users.

Google Storage Price Cut Shows Cloud is Competitive, Maturing

Google slashed the costs of hosted storage for its Picasa and Gmail applications, offering 20 gigabytes (GB) of storage for $5 per year, or twice as much for one quarter of the previous price. Will users begin entrusting more e-mail and photos to Google server farms? It’s hard to say, but certainly cutting storage costs for its Picasa photo-sharing and Gmail applications is a sign the cloud computing market is maturing. Was the cost cut a competitive gesture?
