Microsoft Azure Is Free Until November

Microsoft announces at its Worldwide Partner Conference that Azure, its public cloud platform, will be free until the Professional Developers Conference in November. Intended to go head-to-head against similar cloud platform offerings from Amazon.com and Google, Azure is just one of the flagship programs that Microsoft has been demonstrating at the conference, along with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.

Security Researchers Exploit Vulnerability in Handling of EV SSL Certificates

Two researchers will demonstrate a man-in-the-middle attack at the Black Hat security conference this month that allows them to silently sniff traffic on EV SSL protected Websites. The vulnerability in the way browsers treat EV SSL certificates makes them no more valuable than the cheapest SSL certificate, the researchers say.

Microsoft Launches Silverlight 3 Ahead of Worldwide Partner Conference

Microsoft has launched Silverlight 3, its rich Internet application technology competitor to Adobe Flash. The new version of the application includes increased support and new features such as enhanced video performance. It will be just one product demonstrated at Microsofts Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans July 13-16, along with Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010 and Windows Server 2008.
