Hoe Leong Corp sees 1H net profit of $3m

Mainboard-listed Hoe Leong Corporation, the supplier of heavy equipment parts and vessel charterer, says net profit attributable to owners of the company increased by 276.8% to $3 million for the half year ended 30 June 2010 (HY2010) from $0.8 million in HY2009 as a result of improved revenue and gross profit performance as well as stable operating expenses.

For HY2010, the group recorded an increase of 13.5% to $32.8 million from $28.9 million  in HY2009. This was mainly attributable to revenue increase from all its business segments – namely Design and Manufacture, Trading and Distribution; and Barge and Vessel Chartering.

Venture Corp raised to Outperform from Neutral by Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse raises Venture Corp. (V03.SG) to Outperform vs Neutral, ups target price to $11.05 from $8.95 after electronics contract manufacturer yesterday reports 2Q core net profit +14% on year, in line with expectations. “We expect overall demand-led recovery, ramping of new programs, and contribution from new customers to support a stronger growth profile into 2H,” Credit Suisse says. Venture down 1.3% at $9.09.

Venture Corp posts 33% fall in 2Q net profit to $45.8m

Venture Corporation says net profit for the quarter ended 30 June 2010 (2QFY2010) was $45.8 million, compared to $60.9 million in 2QFY2009 which included a positive fair value adjustment of $25 million on its derivative financial instrument.

Revenue for 2QFY2010 was $652.9 million compared to $846 million in 2QFY2009.

Quarter-on-quarter, the Test & Measurement/Medical/Others segment recorded a revenue improvement of 18.4% in 2Q.

Commodity suppliers: The Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index, which tracks prices of 19 commodities including corn and copper, rose 0.9% in New York yesterday. Olam International (OLAM SP), a supplier of agricultural commodities, dropped 0.7% to $2.73. Noble Group (NOBL SP), a Hong Kong-based commodity supplier, declined 1.2% to $1.66.

Cosco Corp. gets $94.6 m in contracts for two bulk carriers

Cosco Corp. Singapore, part of China’s largest shipping group, said its Cosco (Dalian) Shipyard subsidiary signed contracts to build two bulk carriers of 92,500 deadweight tons each valued at more than US$70 million ($94.6 million) for a Hong Kong ship owner, the company said in a statement to the Singapore stock exchange today.

Phillip Securities Research in an Aug 3 research report says: “After a record quarter with earnings of $676 million, OCBC 2Q10 earnings declined by 26% to $503 million, similar to 4Q09 income of $502 million. The results were due to lower investment revenues, lower insurance income and higher operating expenses.

SMRT Corp downgraded to Neutral from Buy by Nomura

Nomura has cut SMRT Corp. (S53.SG) to Neutral from Buy, lowers price target to $2.05 from $2.45 on back of expected higher cost pressures for Singapore public transit stock over next 6-8 months, says Dow Jones.

Nomura is cutting FY 2011, FY 2012 earnings by 21% to account for higher costs and steeper losses on newly opened Circle Line. But expects growth to resume in FY 2012 as Circle Line ridership improves, more stations open.

Cosco Corp. Singapore 2Q profit rises 85%

Cosco Corp. Singapore reported an 85% increase in second-quarter profit after revenue gained.

The company had a net income of $68.4 million compared with $37 million a year earlier, according to a stock exchange statement. Revenue increased 34% to $962.5 million compared with $718.5 million a year earlier, it said.

SMRT Corp cut to Hold by OCBC from Buy; lowers target price

OCBC Investment cuts public transit stock SMRT Corp. (S53.SG) to Hold from Buy, on valuation grounds and on challenging outlook flagged in earnings, reported Dow Jones.

OCBC lowers fiscal FY11 earnings forecast by 8.2%, also tweaks dividend assumptions, cuts fair value estimate to $2.16 from $2.33.
