Karadžić pleads innocence in letter

Radovan Karadžić has submitted a letter to the Hague Tribunal in which he states that he is not guilty on any of the counts of the indictment against him. The former Bosnian Serb leader has thus far refused to enter a plea to the charges of genocide, murder and torture during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

JM: All war criminals to be arrested

Serbian Justice Minister Snežana Malović said yesterday that all war criminals would be arrested if found on Serbian territory, including Ratko Mladić. Malović said this after a meeting in Sarajevo attended by Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukčević, Bosnian Justice Minister Bariša Čolak and Bosnian Chief Prosecutor Milorad Barašin.

Former Zemun Clansman rearrested in Spain

Former Zemun Clan member Vladimir Jovanović has been arrested again, this time in Spain, writes daily Večernje Novosti. According to the daily, the reason for Jovanović’s remains unknown.

“Crime boss Jočić to turn state’s evidence?”

Crime boss Sreten Jočić has been offered the status of a protected witness, writes daily Blic, a claim that Jočić’s lawyer denies. It is understood that Jočić, who was arrested in late May on suspicion of ordering and financing the murder of Ivo Pukanić, the owner of Croatian weekly Nacional, will be offered the status of a protected witness on condition that he reveals the names of actors in unsolved murders committed in Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Holland over the last 15 years, the daily states.

MPs to consider stricter penal policy

The proposed changes in the Serbian Criminal Code that should be adopted in parliament in mid-July would introduce a stricter penal policy. The new policy would apply to the most seriious crimes that pose a major social threat, Secretary of State with the Justice Ministry Slobodan Homen has said.
