Mufti criticizes school patron saint day

The Islamic Community in Serbia announced that it would inform international institutions of the problem of celebrating an Orthodox Christian holiday. The St. Sava Day is celebrated as a school feast day in Serbia, “a secular state”, said one of the country’s two rival Islamic communities, that headed by Mufti Muamer Zukorlić.

Singapore criticizes fund managers’ ‘window dressing’: Update

The Monetary Authority of Singapore said it won’t tolerate “window dressing” by fund managers in its response to an appeal against the civil stock-rigging lawsuit it won last year against Pheim Asset Management.

“Any other decision would encourage and embolden professional market players to flout the rules and undermine the integrity of the market,” the central bank said in documents filed at the Singapore High Court on Jan. 21, arguing that the appeal by Pheim and its Chief Executive Officer Tan Chong Koay should be dismissed.

Kosovo daily criticizes Serbian deputy PM

Priština-based daily Koha Ditore criticized Serbian Deputy PM Božidar Đelić over his statement about Serbia’s fight for Kosovo during his visit to Prizren.

Đelić visited Prizren on Christmas and spoke about Serbia’s “fight” for Kosovo and said that Belgrade would not renounce Kosovo.

West criticizes Khodrokovsky’s new sentence

The U.S., Great Britain and Germany have criticized the new six-year sentence imposed by a Russian court on former oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

Khodorkovsky, who is near the end of an eight-year term for tax evasion, has been told he will stay jailed till 2017 for embezzlement and money-laundering.

Minister criticizes computer tax hike

Minister for Telecommunications and Information Society Jasna Matić has criticized the ten percent increase in VAT on computer hardware. The tax, which now stands at 18 percent, “reflects a lack of understanding of the significance which the information and communication technologies bear for the enhancement of the country’s competitiveness, living conditions and work of public enterprises”, she said.

Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović criticized EULEX for not having announced the installation of an antenna pole at a northern checkpoint. “Such actions by EULEX do not at all contribute to stabilizing the situation on the ground, rather they only serve to fuel doubt and distrust among the Serbs,” Bogdanović said, according to Beta news agency.

DSS criticizes Kosovo policies

DSS official Slobodan Samardžić said that if Serbia agrees to change its Kosovo resolution it agrees to the dictation of the Western powers. “With the policies of ‘Europe has no alternative,’ the government has sealed the fate of Kosovo instead of fighting for preserving Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) official said.

Former Albanian PM criticizes Meta’s visit

Former Albanian prime minister Pandeli Majko said that Albanian Foreign Minister Ilir Meta’s visit to Serbia came at the wrong time.
