“Candidate status in December”

Serbia can get the EU candidate status in December, said Head of the Serbian government’s EU Integration Office Milica Delević.

She added, however, that it was also necessary to create an appropriate political climate and improve situation in ten indicative fields in order to achieve the goal.

Average December salary EUR 375

The average net salary in Serbia in December 2010 was EUR 375, an increase of 14.1 percent in real terms or 14.9 percent nominally in comparison to November. This was announced by the Serbian Statistical Office on Tuesday in Belgrade.

Singapore’s manufacturing output grew at a sharply slower-than-expected pace in December as most segments logged tepid expansion and benefits of a lower base of comparison from last year started to wear off.

Singapore December manufacturing output likely +19%

Singapore’s manufacturing output growth likely slows to 19% in December on-year vs November’s +39.8%, according to a Dow Jones poll of 12 economists.

Analysts say industrial production may have peaked, and expect growth to return to more sustainable levels between 8.0% and 10% in 2011. Factory output is tipped to contract 3.2% on-month in December on a seasonally-adjusted basis after a surprise 1.1% expansion in November, according to the poll.

Singapore December CPI above expectations; +4.6% on year

Singapore December CPI was +4.6% on year, compared with November’s +3.8% and the +4.5% tipped by a Dow Jones poll of economists. The rise was fueled by higher prices for transport, housing and food, government data show.

Inflation is likely to be the biggest worry for the MAS in 2011; the result is likely to fuel increased expectations for the central bank to tighten policy at its April review, for the third-straight time.

Singapore’s inflation accelerated to two-year high in December

Singapore’s inflation rate last month rose to the highest level since December 2008, adding pressure on the central bank to damp price gains by allowing greater currency appreciation.

The consumer price index increased 4.6% in December from a year earlier, after climbing 3.8% in November, the Department of Statistics said in a statement today. The median estimate of 13 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for a 4.5% gain. Prices rose 0.2% from November, without adjusting for seasonal factors.

Singapore’s CPI inflation in December likely rose to 4.5% on year from 3.8% in November on higher food and transport costs, according to the median forecast from a Dow Jones poll of 10 economists.

Singapore December non-oil exports +9.4% on-year

Singapore’s December non-oil exports are up 9.4% on-year, a tad slower than November’s 9.9% rise.

The result is lower than the 10.5% growth forecast in a Dow Jones poll of economists, due to a decline in electronics, computer hardware and pharmaceuticals shipments.

Singapore December exports likely +10.5% on-year

Singapore’s non-oil domestic exports likely rose 10.5% on-year in December vs a 10% gain in November mainly on increased demand for electronics and pharmaceuticals, according to a median estimate of 10 economists polled by Dow Jones.

“We have seen a relatively strong momentum of exports across the (Asia) region. Also, recent positive macro-economic data from the U.S. suggest that exports would have picked up in Singapore,” says Nomura economist Euben Paracuelle.

Tiger +1.1%; Strong numbers but stock expensive: Credit Suisse

Tiger Airways (J7X.SG) is +1.1% at $1.82, in average volume of 939,000 shares so far, as the airline’s solid December operating data fail to generate much excitement.

The carrier reported it flew 555,000 passengers in December, +22% on-year, +19.6% on-month, at an average load factor of 91%, +1 percentage point on-year.

Singapore’s Tiger Airways carries 22% more passengers in December

Singapore’s budget carrier Tiger Airways (TAHL.SI) carried 22% more passengers in December compared to the year-ago period, the company said on Monday.
Tiger Airways carried 555,000 passengers in December, up from 456,000 in the same month a year earlier, it said in a statement.

Tiger Air reports 32% rise in passengers in 12 months to December; load factor in December …

Tiger Airways has reported solid passenger volumes and load factors in December.

For the month of December, Tiger Air carried 555,000 passengers, a 22% increase compared to the same month last year. The average load factor across Asia and Australia for the month was 91%, an increase of 1 percentage point over December 2009.

Singapore December PMI eases to 50.7 vs 51.4 November

Singapore’s December manufacturing PMI was down 0.7 points to 50.7 vs November’s 51.4; but the figure still reflects expansion and is unlikely to hurt 4Q GDP numbers.

The electronics PMI reported a second straight month of expansion, though the reading eased to 52.2 in December vs 53.2 in November. A reading above 50 in the PMI data indicates growth in manufacturing activity, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.

Mac owners can now purchase programs for their desktops and laptops with a single click, just as you can buy songs on iTunes and games in the App Store for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Apple has set January 6, 2011 as the launch date for the App Store, which will be available in 90 countries with free and for-pay software in categories such as education, games, graphics and design, lifestyle, productivity, and utility. On the developer side, Apple says developers will set the price of the applications and get 70 percent of the revenue. They also do not have to pay for hosting, marketing, or credit card transaction fees; Yahoo announced it will be cutting about 4% of its workforce, which would equate to around 600 jobs. The company also said its planning to shut down several "underperforming" and "non-core" Web properties as it continues a years-long turnaround effort. According to a Yahoo spokeswoman, sites that could be affected by the moves include Delicious, a so-called social bookmarking service; the venerable Web search sites AltaVista and All The Web; and Buzz, which aggregates news stories from around the Web and lets people vote on how important they are; Next summer, Google will be rolling out its Chrome Operating System into the mix with the likes of Windows and Apple OS. Chrome OS is based on Google’s Chrome Web browser. Instead of storing most programs and files on your computer itself, the Chrome OS will mainly run programs from, and require you to keep your data in, the cloud. In effect, it turns your entire computer into a giant Web browser, instead of treating the browser as just one among many local programs. Another cool browser being released soon is RockMelt.
