Microsoft Asks for Review of i4i Patent-Infringement Decision
Microsoft requests that all 11 judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit review a long-running case between the software giant and i4i, a small tech company that alleges that its XML-related patent is violated by Microsoft Word’s coding. In upholding the 2009 verdict in the case, the court ordered Microsoft to stop selling copies of Word by Jan. 11. Although Microsoft issued a patch for Word that theoretically sidesteps the alleged patent violation, it likely wants to negate the nearly $300 million in accumulated penalties leveled against it by the court.

K. ministry official to Montenegro: Think it over
Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanović said that Montenegro should think hard before establishing diplomatic relations with Kosovo. “They have at least 30 percent of their population considering themselves to be Serbs and are adamantly against the decision. It is not good to have that many dissatisfied people on your territory and that must be a decisive element before making a decision, because the Montenegrin leadership must pay attention to this,†Ivanović was quoted as saying.

International law expert Tibor Varadi has said that the Serbian government’s decision to counter-sue Croatia was a “logical move”. “Decision on candidacy status application on Saturday”
The government will decide on Saturday when Serbia’s EU candidacy application will be submitted, President Boris Tadić said. Former foreign minister Goran Svilanović said that the ICJ decision on Kosovo will have no meaning if Belgrade does not know what it wants to achieve with it. “It is up to Serbia to prepare a proposal on what it wants, and in which direction to move forward. Russia, Turkey influenced softening of EU stance?
The EU’s decision to unfreeze the Interim Trade Agreement with Serbia was helped by the Russian and Turkish engagement in the Balkans, Stratfor states. “Russia offered support for the stagnant Serbian economy during the visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Belgrade, which did not go unnoticed by Brussels,†the agency writes.
FM: Candidacy decision after consultations
Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić told B92 TV that a decision will be made on Serbia’s EU candidacy application after consultations are held with European partners.
