MoD content with KFOR cooperation

Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac said that cooperation between the Serbian military and KFOR is satisfactory, but can be improved. After meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mehmet Gonul in Belgrade, Å utanovac told journalists that there was also discuss of the Kosovo situation during the meeting.

President, defense chief travel to Libya

President Boris Tadić and Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac will travel to Tripoli for Tuesday’s celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Libyan revolution. Their trip comes on Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi’s invitation.

Serbia supports “diplomatic solutions”

Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac said that Serbia bases all its stances on the assumption that all problems can be solved peacefully, through diplomacy. “I believe that the time of wars in Serbia is in the past, and that the active and reserve military will use its knowledge and abilities in preserving global peace and helping people whenever needed,” Šutanovac said at a ceremony for the end of the school year for reserve officers at the Military Academy.

Defense chief on security in Kosovo

Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac says the decision to cut KFOR troop numbers should be made in agreement with the Serbian authorities. Å utanovac told journalists that the Serbian officials believe that KFOR has made the decision based on thorough analyses.

Significant military cooperation with U.S.

Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac said that cooperation between Serbian military officials and the Ohio National Guard is important. After visiting an elementary school near Soko Banja, which Serbian military members and members of the Ohio National Guard are working to help reconstruct, Å utanovac said that they had been cooperating since September 2006.

Govt. moving offices to New Belgrade?

The Serbian government, which has offices in over 90 buildings, could be moved to New Belgrade, according to daily Blic. According to a plan drafted by Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac, which the Belgrade newspaper has seen, the prime minister and 19 ministries are to be moved across the Sava River to New Belgrade, into three buildings of the ex-SIV (former Yugoslavia government) complex.

Defense minister on visit to Iraq

Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac on July 30 began a several-day official visit to Iraq. He is heading a delegation of MoD officials and business people.

Defense chief on state of military

Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac stated on Sunday that in the past year his ministry had prepared a set of laws necessary for the reform of the defense system. He also added that the economic crisis has unfortunately slowed down the process of modernization and professionalization of the Serbian Army (VS).
