FCC Delays National Broadband Plan

The federal agency charged with developing a national broadband plan to bring affordable, high-speed Internet connections to all corners of America says it needs at least one more month to complete the plan. Congress originally imposed a Feb. 17 deadline for the FCC to present the plan to lawmakers.

will miss the Feb. 17 deadline by which it was required to present a national

NASA scratches the Dec. 11 launch of an unmanned satellite carrying an infrared-sensitive telescope that will image the entire sky. NASA next aims to launch the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer Dec. 14.

Barnes and Noble Claims Delays for In-Store Nook E-Readers

Barnes Noble says that its Nook e-reader will arrive in stores on Dec. 7, later than anticipated, due to high demand for the devices. The bookseller previously told customers that many of its pre-orders would not ship until after the holidays. Barnes Noble and Sony are both claiming e-reader shortages, while Amazon.com announced best-ever November sales numbers for its Kindle devices, as the e-reader market continues to expand beyond a niche industry.

A software configuration problem in one of the routers within the FAA’s telecommunications infrastructure system in Salt Lake City shut down its flight-plan and traffic-flow system Nov. 19 for about 4 hours all over the United States, the FAA says.
