Motorola Xoom Tablet Demo Powered by Android 3.0 Seen at CES
Las Vegas-Verizon’s keynote address for the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 6 provided the playground for a sweet demonstration of Motorola’s forthcoming Xoom tablet, the Android 3.0 device with a 10.1-inch screen and dual-core processor. The Xoom, which will launch on Verizon Wireless’ network in February, will be 4G-ready when the carrier is ready to expand its 4G LTE coverage beyond its current 38 markets. Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg and Verizon President Lowell McAdam chatted a lot about 4G and its capability to bring data, apps and content to consumers across the country in the next few years. But the Xoom stole the show. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha whipped his out and invited Google Android product manager Mike Cleron up for a fine demo of the Xoom’s 3D capabilities. Google Instant Search Demo: A First Look at Speedier Search
Google Sept. 8 introduced Google Instant, which is quite simply a speedier Google search that renders results as users type them into the search box. Google Instant attempts to guess or predict what users will search for, providing suggested search keywords in light gray as users type in their query. The technology should apply more pressure on Microsoft to innovate on its Bing search engine. Google Instant is rolling out to users of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Web browsers in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and the U.K. throughout the day. Google Instant will arrive for other geographies and platforms in the coming months. A version for smartphones and other mobile devices is coming later this year. Users who don’t want to use Instant can turn it off from the home page. Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president for search products and user experience, and other executives demonstrated the new technology at MOMA in San Francisco. OnStar to Demo on Android App for Chevy Volt at Google I/O
General Motors May 18 said it is adding navigation features for its Chevrolet Volt application that helps users track their vehicles using cars on Google Maps and search for destinations on Android smartphones. The app will connect GM’s OnStar roadside assistance service with Android smartphones. Mellanox is rolling out what officials say is the industrys first 40 Gigabit Ethernet adapter card, designed to make it easier for data centers as they adapt to such technologies as multicore processors from Intel and AMD and virtualization from the likes of VMware, Microsoft and Citrix. The product comes as 10GbE begins to make inroads into data centers, and vendors such as Juniper and Alcatel-Lucent turn to 100GbE.

networking vendors are already talking about their plans for 100GbE capabilities.

Rambus to Demo Threaded Memory Module at IDF
Rambus and Kingston have developed a prototype threaded memory module officials say will address key problems created by such technologies as multicore computing and virtualization. The new threaded memory module promises to increase bandwidth to main memory by as much as 50 percent and reduce power consumption by 20 percent. Its part of a larger main memory initiative Rambus kicked off in May to address what will be needed after DDR3 and as chip makers like AMD and Intel continue to add to the number of cores in their processors.

technologies that address the demands coming from multicore computing and
