Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti: Fall Tour Dates w/ Flaming Lips

TOUR DATES WITH THE FLAMING LIPS, PURO INSTINCT AND MAGIC KIDS

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti

Ariel Pink’s
Haunted
Graffiti
‘s 4AD debut record, Before Today, consists of twelve tracks
(including the single “Round And Round”) and was released worldwide on June 8th 2010 on
CD, LP and digital
formats.

Six months in the making, Before Today was recorded in part in Encino at the House
of Blues (once Tito
Jackson’s home studio) with Sunny Levine (Quincy Jones’ grandson) and Rik Pekkonen (Bill
Withers, Seals & Crofts,
Bread) as well as at the band’s home studios. The result is a beguiling mix of glam rock,
West Coast funk and
Merseybeat harmonies with a high-production sheen; a contrast to the corroded bedroom
recordings that have
fomented a fervent cult following over the past decade.

The outfit now consists of reclusive pop surrealist Ariel Pink (vocals) alongside
Tim Koh
(bass/vocals), Kenny Gilmore (guitar/vocals) and Aaron Sperske
(drums/vocals).

Norway’s Bigbang Return To U.S.

Norway’s Bigbang Return Stateside
New Album Edendale Is A Tribute to Silverlake, Los Angeles

src="http://images.jambase.com/bands/bigbang/default/artist250.jpg">
size=1>Bigbang

Bigbang have returned stateside with Edendale, their tribute to the Silverlake area of the city of Los Angeles.

Front man and founder Øystein Greni explains: “The area of Los Angeles today known as Echo Park/Silverlake used to be called Edendale around the time when the silent movie industry took off. In Europe we tend to romanticize things and people from the past; here it’s all about moving on to the next project. Ironically, as much as I wanted to
get away from the stale museum-like atmosphere of Europe, I get here and start focusing on L.A.’s fascinating past!”

Øystein Greni (vocals); Olaf Olsen (drums); and Nikoli Eilertsen (bass) forged the band’s distinctive sound based on Greni’s love of punk and alternative rock. The guys will head on tour to celebrate their return to the states, after their
North American debut, 2008′s From Acid to Zen.

Out now, via Oglio Records a Fontana/Universal distributed label via the band’s own imprint, Grand Sport – the album was released internationally earlier this year to stellar sales and critical acclaim. The U.S. version of Edendale includes three new exclusive tracks.

Track Listing
1. Play Louder

Bridges & Blinking Lights Album Out Now/Free MP3

Bridges & Blinking Lights to release Heroes, Guns & Snakes Today

Free MP3: “Undercover”

“Coy, clever and shameless, Bridges & Blinking Lights sets its brazen pop hook-mongering in a weightless, irresistible bed of shoegaze.” – Dave Sims, PASTE Magazine

Bridges & Blinking Lights

Bridges & Blinking Lights began life in Denton, Texas as catharsis for singer/guitarist Jake Wilganowski. In early 2006, the quartet (comprised of bassist Michael Lile, guitarist Marc Montoya, vocalist Jake Wilganowski, and drummer Christopher Considine) began work on what would eventually become Standing on The Same Stick. Their 2007 debut album was self-produced and tagged as one of the year’s best local releases. Bridges & Blinking Lights quickly gained a reputation for their energetic live shows and chunky indie-pop hooks. In the winter of 2008, the band began working with acclaimed Texas engineer Matt Pence (also the drummer of Centro-matic and South San Gabriel) on their sophomore album Heroes, Guns & Snakes.

Alec Ounsworth Headline Tour

ALEC OUNSWORTH ANNOUNCES FIRST HEADLINING TOUR

Alec Ounsworth

Anti-Records is proud to announce Alec Ounsworth‘s first headlining tour ever. The dates will be in support of his critically acclaimed new albums: Mo Beauty and Flashy Python’s Skin and Bones. The tour begins with five shows opening for Cold War Kids and then Ounsworth and his band will do 18 headlining dates across the country.

About the band’s debut performance at 2009′s CMJ, Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote that they “set aside the brittle Talking Heads tinges of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for slightly more old-school approaches – meaty electric-piano funk with a New Orleans mambo flavor, bounding Rolling Stone guitar rock, and, from his band, guitar solos straddling blues jabs and post-punk dissonance.”

Ounsworth’s band is Matt Sutton, Peter Modavis, Brian Ashby and Jonas Oesterle. They will be playing songs from Mo Beauty, Skin and Bones, as well as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s catalog. Mo Beauty was recorded deep in the heart of musical New Orleans with an ensemble of local heavyweights including George Porter Jr. of The Meters and drummer Stanton Moore of Galactic, and was guided by veteran producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Replacements). The album is a stunning union of powerful rhythms and imaginative arrangements in the service of evocative literary songwriting.

RJ’s 2010 tour will take him from coast to coast and well into the month of April. After touring the Southeast, Midwest and beyond, the third leg kicks off with a hometown show at Philadelphia’s First Unitarian Church, followed by performances throughout New England, Canada, and the Midwest, before returning to Pennsylvania. The fourth leg is set for fans in both the Mountain and Pacific Time zones.

Also, last week, RJ released the first single off The Colossus, “Games You Can Win,” featuring Grammy-nominated, Ethiopian-born artist Kenna. Check it out here.

Themselves: Winter Tour

BAY AREA HIP HOP PROVOCATEURS RISE ANEW

Themselves

Seven months after the release of theFREEhoudini – the celebrated mixtape that announced Themselves‘ return (for more pop over here) – Doseone and Jel dropped CrownsDown, a careful and vicious exhibition of mastered rap tactics and sampling ethics, on October 27 on Anticon. Themselves’ third album proper has been gestating in the gut of this seminal group for some time. It’s both a return to form and a honing of what’s come before (Subtle, cLOUDDEAD, Deep Puddle) – both the opus that these lionhearted two were always meant to make, and the album that their hip-hop-obsessed teenaged selves always hoped to hear.

Themselves hits the road next week to bring the live incarnation of their rag ‘n’ bone genius to the stage.

Molina and Johnson: Tour/Album

MOLINA AND JOHNSON Announce Early 2010 U.S. Tour

Offer Up New MP3, Album Now Available For Pre-Order

Molina and Johnson

It was an all-too-rare alignment of stars that brought prolific, new American songwriters Jason Molina and Will Johnson together some time ago to record the aptly titled Molina and Johnson (set for release on November 3) under the big Texas sky. Lucky for all of us, it will happen again in early 2010 for a full-on, intimate U.S tour. Following a string of European live dates that begin in November, Molina and Johnson will convene in late January to loop from Texas around the Southeast, East Coast and Midwest, returning to the Lone Star State again. On each of the U.S. dates, the duo will be joined by Chris Brokaw (Come/Codeine).

Currently, Johnson is hitting the skins on the Monsters of Folk tour, while Molina just wrapped up a tear across Europe with Magnolia Electric Co.

To go along with the U.S. tour announcement, Molina and Johnson are sharing one of the true-blue duets from their collaboration. Even on an album chock-full of heartbreakers, “Almost Let You In” offers up its fair share of cutting moments. “Granted that I ever, ever stop playing to win, could you find it in the cards to bring me to the light?” is the plea to what could be a woman or a higher being (or both). Mid-song, the atmospheric guitar, acoustic strums and tambourine taps all cut out for the soft rap of fingertips on the body of an acoustic guitar for a moment of real reflection.

Molina and Johnson will be released by Secretly Canadian next week, on November 3 (Nov. 2 in the U.K.) on CD/LP/Digital formats. The album is now available for pre-order HERE.

Midlake First Album in 3 Yrs First Tour Since 2007

MIDLAKE SET TO RELEASE AMBITIOUS, ENGROSSING NEW ALBUM THE COURAGE OF OTHERS

THEIR FIRST IN OVER THREE YEARS – ON FEB 2 VIA BELLA UNION

FIRST U.S. TOUR DATES SINCE 2007 ANNOUNCED

Midlake

On February 2, 2010 Bella Union will release the eagerly anticipated new Midlake album The Courage of Others, the follow-up to the group’s 2006 breakout The Trials of Van Occupanther. The eleven original songs on Courage were written by Tim Smith and produced by Midlake at their new custom-built studio in Denton, TX. The band’s lineup remains: singer Tim Smith, Paul Alexander on bass, drummer McKenzie Smith, and guitarists Eric Pulido and Eric Nichelson.

Courage builds on the complex textures that made Van Occupanther a touchstone, revealing breathtaking soundscapes and bygone eras. Equal parts intimate and epic, the album evokes a cloistered world of its own with dreamlike melodies, stunning vocal harmonies and ambitious arrangements.

Midlake took a two year break from the road to focus on the new album, but will tour extensively in 2010, with an initial string of dates and a return to SXSW – genesis of the Van Occupanther groundswell in 2006 – already confirmed.

Reviewing one of their last U.S. shows in 2007, SPIN Magazine observed that the new song “Children of Grounds,” which appears on Courage, “pointed toward further ascension,” with “brooding atmospherics and guitar-face rockin.’”

The Courage of Others track list:

Acts of Man

Winter Dies

Small Mountain

Core of Nature

Fortune

Rulers, Ruling All Things

Children of the Grounds

Bring Down

The Horn

Hidden Cameras: New LP & Tour

Canadian Folkers Hidden Camera Trek Across North America

Behind Their Fourth LP Origin:Orphan

Hidden Cameras

The experimental folk outfit Hidden Cameras have just announced a massive North American tour in support of their fourth full-length, Origin:Orphan. Fans can purchase tickets at galleryac.com. As a bonus, in anticipation of the new album and tour, fans who purchase tickets will immediately receive a free digital download of the newly released five-track In The NA.

Origin:Orphan was recorded in Berlin, Germany and Toronto, and delves into new musical territory. The dark synths of the title track and dominant orchestration of “Walk On” counterbalance the upbeat playfulness of “In The NA” and “Underage.” The Hidden Cameras, who have always been known for their celebratory live performances, often take to churches and art galleries, with forty-piece dance troupes. The Band even performed in Munich, Germany during the halftime of a Bayern-Munich soccer game in front of a crowd of over 100,000.

Why?: Eskimo Snow

Why? To Release New Album Eskimo Snow

Why?

A year and a half after releasing the acclaimed LP Alopecia, Why? returns with their fourth album, Eskimo Snow (out September 22). The two records are each other’s perfect foil: while last year’s release found Yoni Wolf and the gang delivering a tight set of intricate rhymes, live loops, slurred hooks and acerbic wit, Eskimo Snow offers a sung, sobering take on mortality that unfurls in lush waves of Americana and pop-infused psych-folk. Pre-mixed in Nashville by Lambchop‘s Mark Nevers (Silver Jews, Bonnie Prince Billy, Calexico), this album is Why?’s most live-sounding yet – a shadowy and sprawling piece as intimate in subject matter as it is handsome in timbre.

This record presents a band uninhibited and evermore accomplished at imbuing sound with mood. “On Rose Walk, Insomniac” rolls forth on a tempestuous din, with hard drumming through the chorus, with Yoni’s voice sounding like its running through a Leslie speaker. “Berkeley By Hearseback” comes in so soft, the guitar tones feel like waves of grain next to the splashy cymbals and a cowboy croon ricocheting through the background. “This Blackest Purse” weaves a melancholy that shirks dourness for a curious smile. And when the titular song brings the album to a hushed close, Eskimo Snow‘s place in the narrative becomes clear. Rather than spit at death or threaten it with suicide, Yoni stops bucking against the inevitable. In the process, the band discovers a rich place that the rest of us can happily live within.

Eskimo Snow Track List:

1. These Hands
2. January Twenty Something
3. Against Me
4. Even The Good Wood Gone
5. Into The Shadows of My Embrace
6. One Rose
7. On Rose Walk, Insomniac
8. Berkeley By Hearseback
