Phoenix Fall U.S. Tour

PHOENIX: FALL U.S.TOUR DATES

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE TO RE-AIR PERFORMANCE ON AUGUST 1

Phoenix

French rock quartet Phoenix will indulge music fans and critics alike with a highly anticipated fall U.S. tour after they sold out select dates across North America earlier this summer. The tour will take the band from the Monolith Festival at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver to NYC’s Central Park Summerstage to Austin City Limits, bringing to life the musical gems from Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, out now on Loyaute/Glassnote Records. Metric will open for Phoenix at the Greek Theatre in L.A. on September 16 and Passion Pit supports at Central Park Summerstage in NYC on September 25 and 26. But a dose of Phoenix’s live brilliance will come sooner than September when Saturday Night Live re-airs the band’s appearance on August 1. Tune in to NBC at 11:35 p.m. EST/PST to see Phoenix perform irresistible singles “1901″ and “Lisztomania.”

America’s love affair with Phoenix has grown exponentially since the release of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, already being lauded as one of the year’s best albums. A seamless blend of unstoppable choruses, dynamic guitars, and whimsical pop sensibilities, it is an album that would make any music fan fall in love. Phoenix’s live performances infuse the songs with an energy that makes them soar while Thomas Mars‘ purely melodic voice brings an irreplaceable quality to the band’s soundscape.

Be sure to catch Phoenix this fall.

Praise for Phoenix:

Jemimah Puddleduck: No Molo, Nuccio & Ingram Sub

Jemimah Puddleduck Announces Replacement Drummers To Fill In For John Molo

Mark Karan and Jemimah Puddleduck must regretfully announce that, due to scheduling problems, John Molo will not be participating during the band’s August shows.

Fortunately, adequate replacements have been found: for August 6-7-8 on the East Coast, Puddleduck will welcome the amazing Carlo Nuccio, and for August 14-15 in Denver, the glorious Wally Ingram.

Carlo Nuccio has recorded with Tori Amos, Emmylou Harris and Buckwheat Zydeco, as well as just about every band that ever called New Orleans home. You get rhythm with your birth certificate in NOLA, but Carlo got several extra helpings.

Wally Ingram is the ubiquitous percussion accomplice to Sheryl Crow, Eric Burdon, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, David Lindley, Crosby, Stills & Nash – and that’s just the beginning of the list.

These guys are simply superb, and Jemimah Puddleduck is looking forward to their August shows.

Pets-only airline makes maiden flight

Pet Airways offers jet-set pets travel with furry frills, from boarding lounge and pre-flight walks to onboard lunch and loo breaks

One trip for their Jack Russell terrier in a plane’s cargo hold was enough to convince Alysa Binder and Dan Wiesel that pet owners needed a better solution for transporting their animals from one location to another.

Yesterday, the first flight of Pet Airways, the service devised by the married couple, and the first-ever all-pet airline, took off from Republic airport, in Farmingdale, New York.

Binder and Wiesel used their background in consulting and their business know-how to found Pet Airways in 2005 and have spent the last four years designing their fleet of five planes to suit the animal travellers, as well as dealing with Federal Aviation Administration regulations and setting up the airport schedules.

The couple say they have been “overwhelmed” with the response to the new service with flights on the airline already booked up for the next two months.

Pet Airways serves New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles, and charges from $149 (£91) for a one-way fare, which is comparable to pet fees charged by the largest US airlines.

Some commercial airlines allow a limited number of small pets to fly in the cabin, but some animals are required to travel in the cargo hold.

Pet Airways says it offers a quite different service. Dogs and cats will fly in the main cabin of a freight plane that has been re-arranged and lined with carriers in place of seats. The animals, up to 50 a time, will be escorted to the plane by attendants who will check them every 15 minutes during the flight.

The pets get pre-boarding walks and “bathroom breaks”. And at each of the five airports it serves, the company offers a pet lounge for animals waiting to board.

The company will operate out of smaller, regional airports in the five cities, which will mean an extra trip for most people due to fly themselves. And stops in cities along the way mean the pets will take longer to reach the destination than their owners. A trip from New York to Los Angeles, will take about 24 hours, said Pet Airways. On that route, pets will stop in Chicago for a loo break, playtime and dinner, before bunking down for the night and arrival the next day.

Amanda Hickey, of Portland, Oregon, is one of the new airline’s first customers. Her seven-year-old terrier-pinscher mix, Mardi, and Penny, a two-year-old puggle (a pug crossed with a beagle) were soon to take their first flight. Hickey said the service would be a welcome alternative to flying her dogs in cargo from Denver to Chicago to stay with her family while she and her fiance go to Aruba to get married. “For a little bit more money, I have peace of mind,” she said.

It was the stressful experience of transporting their Jack Russell, Zoe, in a cargo hold, that spurred Binder and Wiesel to start their airline. Binder said it was worrying not being able to check on the dog at all. “One time in cargo was enough for us,” she said, walking through an airplane hangar as Zoe trotted in front of her. “We wanted to do something better.”

The company, which will begin with one flight in each of its five cities, might add more flights and cities. In the next three years, Binder hopes the schedule will expand to 25 destinations.

Includes Free Digital Download For Exclusive 7-inch

Magnolia Electric Co.

Now is the time to stake your claim on a copy of Josephine, the first LP from Magnolia Electric Co. in three years. Pre-orders of the album will come with a free, digital download of the 2009 limited-pressing 7-inch, It’s Made Me Cry. The 7-inch is a bit of an interlude into It’s Made Me Cry.

Like on the 7-inch, Josephine is also an experiment in Molina’s songcraft, introducing some real lessons in brevity as he whittles a handful of tracks into well-under three minutes, all while taking cues from great songsmiths like Willie Nelson and Warren Zevon.

Next week, Magnolia Electric Co. will set off on a North American tour with San Diego’s The Donkeys, a tour that includes a two-night stand in Molina’s beloved Chicago.

The Juan MacLean & Field Tour

The Juan MacLean and The Field co-headlining a full LIVE band U.S. Tour

Welcome back intelligent dance music, we’ve missed you. – Music OMH, February 2009

The Juan MacLean

After releasing the much anticipated The Future Will Come (due 4/21 on DFA Records), Juan MacLean and Nancy Whang take The Juan MacLean on the road this spring. Juan, Nancy and band will be playing tracks live from The Future Will Come, which Filter magazine described as “perfectly orchestrated and directed to achieve maximum mood and dance-ability.” If the weather doesn’t make you sweat, your dance moves will.

The Juan MacLean is co-headlining the tour with Stockholm’s Axel Willner, aka The Field (Kompakt). After breaking out of the “boy and his laptop” mold following a tour with !!!, Willner teamed up with friends – percussionist/bass player Dan Enqvist and multi-instrumentalist Andreas Söderstrom to see what they could accomplish playing together. Modernizing their kraut rock influences, The Field recorded Yesterday & Today, due out May 19 on Anti- Records.

Co-sponsored by Scion and Nooka Toys, this is one dance party you do not want to miss.
Speaking of Nooka Toys, The Juan MacLean will have their very own Nooka Nooka Toy designed by Mike Vadino, who also designed the album cover for The Future Will Come.
