Brothers Past: 10th Anniversary Digital Box Set, Live Gigs

LOTS OF COOL ACTIVITY FROM A TRULY MODERN ROCK BAND

Brothers Past by Tobin Voggesser

It was right around this time ten years ago when Tom Hamilton, Tom McKee, Clay Parnell and Rick Lowenberg first began making music together in a house near West Chester, PA. Ten years later, Brothers Past is still going strong, and they’ve got some big plans for the next year to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the band.

They’ll be kicking off the celebration next month with an anniversary party at the famed Bowery Ballroom in New York City on October 9. The Bowery has been home to many a great BP show, including the CD release party for This Feeling’s Called Goodbye. The party begins at midnight on 10/10/10 (Saturday night, but technically a Sunday show).

The band has also announced the release of Everything Must Go, a digital box set of unreleased studio tracks and live music from over the years. And beginning in October, Brothers Past will be cleaning out the vaults by digitally releasing a soundboard recording from the past along with an unreleased studio track. The tracks will be released on the 10th of each month for the next year. Download
information and cost will be made available soon.

The remainder of 2010 will be spent balancing time between the road and the
studio. Colorado fans take note: Brothers Past returns October 7-8 with allies The New Deal. And down south, the band will be performing in Charleston, Blacksburg and
Baltimore (Oct 21-23 with friends Telepath) Plans for a Thanksgiving run will be announced soon, but one detail is the band will be back at the River Street Jazz Cafe on Thanksgiving Eve, a BP tradition.

Brothers Past Tour Dates

Thursday, Oct 7 – Fox Theatre – Boulder, CO (w/ The New Deal)
Friday, Oct 8 – RE:DEFINITION – CERVANTE’S, DENVER, CO (a two-day event with The New Deal, Future Rock & more)
Saturday, Oct 9 – BOWERY BALLROOM – NEW YORK, NY (10th Anniversary Launch Party)
Thursday, Oct 21, 2010 – THE POURHOUSE – CHARLESTON, SC (w/ Telepath)

Slash | Denver Show | Pics

Words & Images by: Mike Hardaker

Slash :: 09.01.10 :: Odgen Theatre :: Denver, CO

The music of Guns N’ Roses is still cranking when Slash, the former lead guitar player, heads out on tour, including this stop at the Ogden Theatre. Slash is hitting the road with a new band ripping guitar solos thru old GNR hits, Velvet Revolver & Slash’s Snakepit songs, Zeppelin & Alter Bridge tunes and new material from his recent album.

In Denver Slash, lead singer Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) and the rest of the band tried out a new song called “Do It For the Kids,” announcing to the crowd this was the first time played and to bear with them. The boys are modest as the song was loud, rocking and felt like it had been played for years.

On tour with Slash are Kennedy, Bobby Schneck (rhythm guitar), Todd Kerns (bass guitar) and Brent Fitz (drums). The crowd was younger then expected but again this shows rock ‘n’ roll is here to stay. It really brought a smile to my face to see kids rocking out to music that moved me in my teens, and still continues to do so many years later. Myles Kennedy told the crowd at one point, “This is rock ‘n’ roll. No fighting – it’s all about love.”

If you ever listened to Guns N’ Roses growing up I would highly recommend checking this show out, and even if you’re not familiar with them but just dig ripping guitar heavy rock then be sure to check for tour dates near you.

The Black Crowes | Denver | Pics

Words & Images by: Mike Hardaker

The Black Crowes :: 08.29.10 :: Fillmore Auditorium :: Denver, CO

The Black Crowes rolled into the Fillmore Auditorium possibly for the last time as part of the band’s “Goodbye to the Bad Guys” tour. After an extensive run of U.S. concert dates scheduled between August and December of 2010, the band has announced they will be taking an indefinite break.

The Crowes are also on the road to support their new album of re-recordings of tracks from their 20 years together titled Croweology. The two-disc album was recorded in Los Angeles and is 100-percent acoustic. During the Fillmore Auditorium show in Denver, The Black Crowes’ entire first set was played with acoustic instruments, a big change from the loud rock ‘n’ roll their rep is based on.

The Black Crowes current lineup features brothers Chris (vocals, guitar) and Rich Robinson (guitar, vocals), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass), Luther Dickinson (guitar) and Adam McDougall (keyboards).

On September 11 2010, The Black Crowes will be inducted into the 32nd Annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards Show. Former inductees include Widespread Panic and R.E.M.. The event marks the 20th anniversary of The Black Crowes multi-platinum album Shake Your Moneymaker. If you’re in the Georgia area or consider yourself a true fan try and make it down to the Hall Of Fame Awards show; it’s a rocking good time!!

One can only hope the hiatus is not indefinite. The Black Crowes have been putting their heart and soul into rock ‘n’ roll for the last 20 years. As one member of the crowd said, “This is the only hippie band left. Look at him (Chris Robinson) and Luther (Dickinson).” I couldn’t help but agree. With the addition of Luther Dickinson, the guitars were blazing throughout the night; such a great sound.

Setlist
Set I: Soul Singing, Hotel Illness, The Last Place That Love Lives, Ballad In Urgency, Wiser Time, She, Under a Mountain, Whoa Mule, My Morning Song, She Talks To Angels, No Speak No Slave

Set II: Remedy, Seeing Things, Jealous Again, Thorn’s Progress > Thorn In My Pride, Oh! Sweet Nuthin’, High Head Blues, Sometimes Salvation, Halfway to Everywhere
E: Title Song, Hot Burrito #2

The Congress: Late Summer/Early Fall Tour

ROCKIN’ DENVER BAND TAKES IT TO THE ROAD AGAIN

“Harry Nilsson meets Blood Sweat & Tears at Randy Newman’s House.” – Vintage Guitar Magazine, July 2010

“You can’t really understand until you see them live… to hear art this good, to experience such a series of incredible moments is not something you forget…Their (The Congress) self-titled album is phenomenal, and each track blows me away.” – Magazine 33, December 2009

The Congress begin a late summer/early fall tour beginning in their native Colorado on August 29th and then stretching into Lawrence, KS (9/30), Louisville, KY (10/2) and many other points in the South, eventually landing in Little Rock, AR (10/29). See full tour dates here.

.
In a little less than a year, Denver based band The Congress has established itself as one of the most dynamic live acts in the Rocky Mountain region (And recently knocked the socks off JamBase Associate Editor Dennis Cook when they played S.F., evoking everything from Wilco to Little Feat to Weezer and still sounding like very much their own band the whole damn time).

The Congress began as a creative endeavor between Richmond natives Jonathan Meadows and Scott Lane. Lane had moved to Denver in 2008 to begin work as a freelance and studio guitarist. Shortly after, he convinced Meadows to make the move as well, and in September of 2009 the two founded The Congress along with Damon Scott and Dwight Thompson. Since then The Congress has performed more than 100 shows across the nation on the strength of their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. The album was recorded in Denver, Colorado by Grammy Award Winning engineer, John Macy (Gladys Knight) and co-produced by multi-instrumentalist, Daniel Clark (K.D. Lang, Mandy Moore, Courtyard Hounds).
