Đelić hopeful of interim deal unfreezing

Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić expects EU members to discuss the unfreezing of the Interim Trade Agreement with Serbia by the end of the year.
Addressing the Swedish Foreign Affairs Institute in Stockholm, Đelić said that he was convinced that Serbia would be on the white Schengen list next year.

Đelić: Membership application possible in 2009

Serbia will consider applying for EU membership soon if the Interim Trade Agreement is not implemented soon, says Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić. In its annual progress report, the European Commission (EC) called on the EU to unblock the trade deal because of Serbia’s progress in European integration and cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.

Đelić calls for visa liberalization with UK

Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić has called on British MPs to consider the possibility of abolishing visas for Serbian citizens traveling to the UK. Đelić met with a senior delegation from the UK Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Select Committee, led by John Stanley.

Đelić expects positive EC report

Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić expects the European Commission to confirm that Serbia has met all the remaining criteria for visa liberalization. “96 percent of the National EU Integration Program has been completed, which is why Serbia expects a positive report from the EC on its progress towards European integration,” said Đelić.

Đelić: All Schengen criteria met

The government is sending its official report to the EC today on meeting the conditions for visa liberalization, says Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić. Đelić said that the report would show that Serbia had met all the conditions from the road map with a view to placing Serbia on the white Schengen list from January 1.

Đelić: Candidacy to be coordinated with EU

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić told daily Blic that Belgrade must coordinate its application for EU candidacy with Brussels. He said that the agreement for budget aid from the EU, worth EUR 100mn, is proof that Brussels has confidence in the reforms being implemented in Serbia, which is why the application for candidacy must be coordinated with the EU, “even if it is submitted an hour after the decision for implementing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) is made.”

Đelić: SAA must be priority

Serbia’s priority in European integration should be unfreezing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), says Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić. Đelić and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn agreed in Brussels yesterday that Serbia’s priority should be work on EU integration and cooperation with the Hague Tribunal in order to establish a consensus within Brussels over the application of the SAA, he told daily Danas.

IAEA thanks govt. for addressing Vinča problem

IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has thanked the Serbian government for resolving the issue of nuclear waste at the Vinča Institute. During talks with Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić in Vienna, ElBaradei said that he was happy that the agreement with Russia on the transfer of nuclear waste had finally been signed.

Health institutions to receive 24 ambulances from EU

A ceremonial donation of 24 ambulances to health institutions will take place in front of the Palace of Serbia at 14:30, according to the Health Ministry. Head of the European Commission delegation to Serbia, Josep Lloveras, Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić and Health Minister Tomica Milosavljević will be giving the keys to the vehicles to the directors of six health institutions in Serbia.

“Visa liberalization to save EUR 20mn”

Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić says that Serbian industry and the tax payer will save an annual EUR 20mn thanks to visa liberalization.

Đelić told daily Večernje Novosti that Serbia had to meet several more obligations by October.

Đelić on visas, Kosovo status

Ahead of EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana’s meetings with Serbia’s senior officials, guests on a B92 TV program debated the issues of Kosovo and visas. “He is surely coming to announce to us what will happen on Wednesday, July 15, and as Mr. [EC Vice President Jacques] Barrot said when we met in Brussels three weeks ago, the decision the “visa Bastille” for Serbian citizens will fall one day after the French Bastille Day, therefore, on July 15,” Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić said.
