Serbians, Macedonians to cross border with ID cards

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić is visiting Macedonia on January 28 and 29.

“Macedonian and Serbian citizens will soon be able to travel across the border with identity cards only, without passports,” he said Friday.

EP to ratify SAA with Serbia next week

Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Serbia will be ratified by the European Parliament next week in Brussels. Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Božidar Đelić will address the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Monday evening to present Serbia’s plans for 2011 regarding the EU integration process.

Albanian deputy PM resigns

Albanian Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Ilir Meta resigned today amid corruption accusations.

Meta resigned after Top-Channel TV aired a videotape which shows him asking former Economy Minister Dritan Prifti to intervene over a hydropower plant concession tender.

Christmas marked in towns in Kosovo

The central celebration of Christmas Eve in Kosovo and Metohija was held in the St. Demetrios Church in Kosovska Mitrovica, northern Kosovo. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Božidar Đelić, who attended the celebration, pointed out that 2011 will be the year of Serbia’s strong efforts aimed at European integration and fight for Kosovo.

Deputy FM: France in favor of candidacy

France unreservedly supports Serbia’s endeavors for getting the status of candidate for European Union membership. This is according to Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Božidar Đelić, who was in Paris on Tuesday.

“Four percent economic growth in 2011”

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Mlađan Dinkić expects to see four percent of economic growth in 2011.

He added that he also expected an increase in exports, a substantial rise in foreign investments, reduction of unemployment and a mild salary rise, and announced that the government would continue granting subsidized loans to the economy and citizens.

“Government hasn’t discussed FM’s dismissal”

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated on Sunday that the government had not discussed Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić’s dismissal.

He points out that the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) did not have any objections to Jeremić’s work so far and that he does not wish to comment on the position of the Democratic Party (DS) concerning the issue.

Japan, Serbia in police cooperation

Serbian and Japanese officials today in Tokyo signed a memorandum on cooperation of the two country’s police forces. Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić and President of Japan’s National Commission for Public Safety Tomiko Okazaki signed the document.

Serbia to receive questionnaire this month

EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fuele will visit Belgrade on November 24, when he will officially present the Serbian government with a questionnaire. It will consist of 4,000-5,000 questions, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Božidar Đelić said on Monday.

“Serbia has 51,000 women entrepreneurs”

There are currently 51,000 companies owned by women in Serbia, which is 17 percent of the total number of companies in the country. This is according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mlađan Dinkić, who spoke in Belgradd on Wednesday.

Jeremić, Dačić travel to Moscow

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić arrived on Wednesday on a two-day visit to Moscow.
There he will attend the ninth meeting of the Serbian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Kosovo daily: Kosovo government to lift ban?

The Kosovo government reverted its decision to ban Serbian officials from visiting Kosovo for the enthronement of Patriarch Irinej at the Patriarchate of Peć. The PriÅ¡tina-based daily Koha Ditore quoted the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Hajredin Kuci, who said that “Kosovo government seeks compliance with the procedures required for a visit.”

Luxembourg minister on Serbian bid

Ahead of the EU Council of Ministers meeting next month, a high ranking Luxembourg official says there should be “good news for Serbia”. The country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn also said that the Netherlands, the country that is blocking Serbia’s accession in the EU, will ease its stand.

Tesla’s birthday declared Science Day

The government has declared July 10, the birth date of scientist Nikola Tesla, the Day of Science in Serbia.

The Ministry for Science and Technological Development said in a statement on Friday that it would also propose to the UN and UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) that July 10 be declared the international day of science, said Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Božidar Đelić.

FM: Albania lobbies for Kosovo

Albania closely cooperates with American and European diplomats in order to ensure new Kosovo’s recognitions. This is according to Albania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilir Meta.

“Serbian personnel can’t guard monasteries”

Kosovo Albanian government’s interior minister said on Sunday that “Serbia can’t send personnel” to help guard Serb medieval monasteries and historic monuments. Bajram Redzepi’s comments came Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said on Sunday in Gračanica that Belgrade was ready to send personnel to help guard Serb medieval monasteries and historic monuments in Kosovo and Metohija.

Rehn and Đelić sign aid agreement

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Božidar Đelić is paying a visit to Brussels on Monday, the minister’s office said in a statement. Đelić and European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Olli Rehn signed an agreement on EUR 200mn in macro-financial aid to Serbia.

Deputy PM meets with RS premier

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić met with the Republic of Srpska (RS) Prime Minister Milorad Dodik in Banja Luka on Sunday. Dačić said after the meeting that, as side that signed the Dayton Agreement, Serbia was not only a guarantor of the Serb entity, RS, “but of the entire Bosnia-Herzegovina”, and pointed out that Serbia-RS cooperation based on the Special Parallel Relations Agreement was efficient.

Pak needs to learn from Chinese experience: Zardari


ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari underlined the need to learn and follow the growth and development of China, saying that mutuality and convergence of interests should be fully utilised.
“There is a lot for Pakistan to learn from the Chinese experience of development and growth,” the President said while talking to a high-powered Chinese Delegation under Deputy Prime Minister Shang Dejiang.
According to an official handout, the President appreciated Chinese proactive role in socio-economic development and strategic stability of Pakistan. Reiterating that the region was facing a common challenge of militancy and extremism, he also lauded Chinese support for Pakistan in war against terrorism.
At the same time, the President found it necessary to reiterate that the democratic Government in Pakistan was committed to curb menace of militancy and extremism at any cost.
Earlier, the President conferred Hilal-i-Pakistan on the Chinese Deputy Prime Minister during a special ceremony at the Presidency.
“In recognition of his outstanding services towards promoting bilateral friendly relations between Pakistan and China, the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to confer the award of Hilal-i-Pakistan on Zhang Dejiang,” according to a citation read on the occasion.
Besides thanking for the honour conferred on him, the Chinese Vice-Premier conveyed greetings from his President Hu Jintao to Zardari and extended an invitation to the President to visit China. Zhang Dejiang said that China valued its friendship with the Government and the people of Pakistan and would continue to provide every possible assistance.
Meanwhile, the visiting Chinese delegation also held a separate meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, who observed that Pakistan-China friendship was a factor of peace and stability for the region and welcomed the Chinese support for peace and stability in South Asia.
During one-on-one meeting with the Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Dejiang prior to bilateral talks here this evening at PMÂ’s House, the Prime Minister thanked China for its steadfast support and solidarity.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan would never allow any extraneous factors to affect this vital relationship. He appreciated the Chinese assistance in construction of infrastructure projects particularly extension of credit in setting up of Chashma Nuclear Power Plants to overcome energy shortage. He hoped that this cooperation would further expand.
Chinese Vice Premier told Gilani that Pakistan occupied an important place in the Chinese foreign policy and Beijing valued its partnership with the Government and the people of Pakistan.
Later, Pakistan and China have signed five agreements on Concessional Loan for PAKSAT I-R Project, Cooperation in Port Construction and Port-Management-Training, Cooperation in Information Technology, China-Pakistan Cable System Construction and Maintenance Agreement and Contract Agreement for Engineering, Procurement and Construction of Works for the Darawat Dam Project.
These agreements were signed at an impressive ceremony held at the PMÂ’s House in the presence of the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and the visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Deijang.

Interior minister to visit South America

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić on Sunday anounced his forthcoming trip to South America. Dačić said that he would sign agreements and memorandums related to fighting against organized crime, particularly cocaine trafficking.
