Google Maps for BlackBerry Boasts Biking Directions, Shared Location

Google June 2 added biking directions and shared locations to its new Google Maps 4.2 for BlackBerry application, just three weeks after adding these features to Google Maps 4.2 for Android. BlackBerry for Maps users can also use a location-sharing feature to meet up with friends. Google Maps for Android Gets Biking Directions, Sharing Feature

Google May 11 brought its biking directions feature to Google Maps 4.2 for Android, along with the ability to share places with friends for smartphones using Android 1.6 and higher. Google Maps Navigation also got a shortcut to make it easier for users to access turn-by-turn directions from their Android phones. These moves are designed to boost the use of Google Maps on Android-based devices at a time when users are looking to do more with location-based data.

Google Bike Directions Point to Google Maps as Key Search Tool

Google’s addition of biking directions and bike trail data to Google Maps is one more example of the search engine giant’s increased emphasis on connecting users to information. The move is also part of the company’s plan to get more users coming to Google Maps for the purpose of showing them advertisements from local businesses. Of course, the biking directions are at the beta stage and leave something to be desired.
