HP’s PC Lineup for CES Boasts Touch Screens, HD Displays

As hundreds of thousands of people head toward windy and chilly Las Vegas to attend this week’s Consumer Electronics Show 2011, vendors such as Hewlett-Packard and hundreds of others are busy setting up their displays for Jan. 6 start of the four-day event. When the exhibit hall doors open, several new desktop, notebook personal and business computers from HP, the world’s largest maker of PCs, will be on display for demonstration purposes at the AMD/Wired Magazine Booth, the Intel Booth, and the Pepcom and Showstoppers media events. The biggest advancements in the new HP computers involve touch screens (with the new MultiTouch feature) and more powerful processors. The new touch screens will be made available in larger 22- and 23-inch monitor sizes. HP also will be showing a new HP 100B All-in-One personal computer for small businesses with prices starting at a mere $499. Some new thin clients are also on the docket. Sharp Creating 3D Cell Phone Displays, No Glasses Required

Sharp says it will be creating 3D displays for cell phones and other mobile devices, though an executive declines to comment on whether Sharp will be behind the Nintendo 3DS gaming console.

Microsoft’s Ballmer Displays Tablet PCs, New HTC Phone, Video at CES

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer used the platform of his Jan. 6 keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to promote the companys flagship products, including Bing and Windows 7. While his presentation included precious few major announcements, it nonetheless managed to build some buzz among audience members thanks to the unveiling of three tablet PCs, including one built by Hewlett-Packard.

Thanks in part to rampant speculation over Apple’s own much-rumored tablet PC, the devices have become one of the most talked-about items at CES. Apple Unveils New iMac With 21.5 and 27-inch Displays

Apple today unveiled an all new iMac line featuring brilliant LED-backlit 21.5 and 27-inch widescreen displays in a new edge-to-edge glass design and seamless all aluminum enclosure. The new iMac line, starting at $1,199, is the fastest ever with Intel Core 2 Duo processors starting at 3.06 GHz, and Core i5 and i7 quad-core processors for up to twice the performance. Every new iMac ships with a wireless keyboard and the all new wireless Magic Mouse, the world’s first mouse with Multi-Touch technology.

New Fujitsu LifeBook Laptops, Tablets Offer Windows 7, Multitouch Displays

Fujitsu introduced five new laptops on Oct. 19, all running versions of Microsoft’s Windows 7, which is said to have embedded functionality that greatly complements touch-related applications. The Fujitsu offerings, some of which are now available and some of which will arrive in the coming weeks, are the LifeBook T4410 and T4310, which are enterprise- and consumer-focused versions of convertible tablet PCs; the 15.6-inch LifeBook A1220 desktop replacement; a glossy, 10.1-inch M2011 netbook; and an also glossy, 3.5-pound LifeBook P3010 ultrathin notebook.

Acer Laptops Come Packed with Touch-screen Displays, Windows 7, Android

Leading into the 2009 holiday shopping season, Acer introduced three laptops and even an Android-running smartphone called Liquid, which will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. While the Liquid announcement was a teaser, without pricing or timeline details, Acer was more generous about the laptops. The Acer One AOD250 is a 10.1-inch dual-boot model running both Android and Windows XP Home. The Aspire 5738PG is the company’s first notebook to feature a screen with multitouch capabilities, and the Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ is an 11.6-inch addition to Acer’s Timeline series. Acer additionally announced that it will expand its Timeline series with additional models featuring Microsoft’s Windows 7 and Intel CULV dual-core processors. Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet, T400s Laptop Offer Multitouch Displays

Lenovo is looking for new ways business users can interact with their laptops. The PC maker is now offering multitouch screen technology, along with a new application called Simple Tap, with its ThinkPad X200 tablets and T400s notebooks. The technologies add multitouch capabilities to the laptops and take advantage of new features found within Microsofts Windows 7 operating system.
