Home of Jackson doctor searched

Police are searching the Las Vegas home of Michael Jackson’s doctor as part of a manslaughter investigation into the singer’s death.

Dr Conrad Murray, who police say is not a suspect, was at Jackson’s mansion and tried to revive him before he died.

The search by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officers follows a similar operation at the doctor’s Houston clinic last week.

Police removed several items from the clinic on Wednesday.

Toxicology results

Searches at the clinic and another site rented by Dr Murray in Houston, Texas, were carried out after a warrant was issued by a judge in the city.

The warrant, filed in Harris County District Court, said authorities were looking for "items constituting evidence of the offence of manslaughter that tend to show that Dr Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offence".

Items seized during the searches included 27 tablets of the weight loss drug phentermine, a tablet of the muscle relaxant clonazepam, two hard drives, notices from the Internal Revenue Service and a registration for controlled substances.

Paramedics were called to Jackson’s Los Angeles mansion while Dr Murray was performing CPR on the singer on the day he died, according to a recording of a 911 call.

Speaking a few days after Jackson’s 25 June death, Dr Murray’s lawyer, Edward Chernoff, denied his client administered painkilling drugs that could have contributed to the singer’s death.

An official determination of what killed Jackson will not be made until the results of a toxicology report are disclosed.</p

Jackson police begin criminal inquiry

Search warrant confirms inquiry becoming criminal investigation

The investigation into the death of Michael Jackson is being treated as possible manslaughter, according to a search warrant relating to the pop star’s personal doctor filed with the Los Angeles courts.

Speculation that the inquiry is moving in a criminal direction has been confirmed with the court documents that grant detectives the power to seek “property or items constituting evidence of the offence of manslaughter that tend to show that Dr Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offence”.

Murray was the Las Vegas-based physician whom Jackson employed to care for him during the build up to and completion of his London series of concerts that had been scheduled for this month. The doctor was at the singer’s side when he collapsed on June 25.

A clinic in Texas and a lock-up used by Murray were raided by officers of the US drugs agency and LA police on Wednesday. The court documents show that among items seized were 27 tablets of a weight loss drug called phentermine, one pill of clonazepam, a muscle relaxant and two computer hard drives.

The raids come ahead of results which are due to be announced by the LA county coroner’s office of the toxicology tests on Jackson which are expected in the next week or two. The focus appears to be on the anaesthetic propofol that was found in Jackson’s rented mansion after his death. Paraphernalia associated with the administration of the sedative, including a stand holding an intravenous drip and an oxygen tank, were also found in the room.

Murray is registered to practise in California, Nevada and Texas. There have been reports that medical authorities are investigating his practice with a view to suspending his licence.

Several other doctors used by Jackson in recent months have also been the subject of police interest, although none of them have as yet been interviewed by officers.

Doctor Targeted In Michael Jackson Manslaughter Investigation

Michael Jackson’s doctor is being investigated for manslaughter.

On Wednesday, police and agents from the DEA raided Murray’s Houston offices looking for “items constituting [...]

Jackson’s doctor is probe target

Michael Jackson’s personal doctor has been identified as the target of a manslaughter investigation into the singer’s death, US court papers say.

Dr Conrad Murray’s medical clinic in Houston, Texas, and another site rented by him were searched on Wednesday.

Police have said previously that Dr Murray is not a suspect but the search warrant allowed the authorities to seek evidence of manslaughter.

The doctor was at Jackson’s mansion and tried to revive him before he died.

Dr Murray has already been interviewed twice by police, who had asked for medical records in addition to those already provided.

According to the warrant, approved by a Houston judge and filed in Harris County District Court, authorities were looking for "items constituting evidence of the offence of manslaughter that tend to show that Dr Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offence".

Unwelcome attention

Items seized during the searches included 27 tablets of the weight loss drug phentermine, a tablet of the muscle relaxant clonazepam, two hard drives, notices from the Internal Revenue Service and a controlled substance registration.

Speaking a few days after Jackson’s death, Dr Murray’s lawyer, Edward Chernoff, denied his client administered painkilling drugs that could have contributed to the singer’s death.

But he said that, because of his closeness to Jackson at his death, the doctor had received unwelcome attention from people angry at the singer’s demise.

Mr Chernoff was present at Wednesday’s searches.

"I do not know what they are looking for and I can’t possibly tell you how anything they took in any way connects with the death of Michael Jackson," he was quoted by the Los Angeles Times as saying.

An official determination of what killed Jackson will not be made until after a toxicology report, which is expected to be completed next week. </p

Clinic of Jackson doctor raided

Dr Conrad Murray

The Houston clinic of Michael Jackson’s physician, Dr Conrad Murray, has been raided by officers from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Dr Murray’s spokeswoman told the BBC the raid "was a surprise to us and it was a surprise to the attorneys".

The doctor was at the singer’s mansion and tried to revive him before he died on 25 June.

DEA spokeswoman Violet Szeleczky confirmed a search was carried out but said it was not technically a raid.

Officers "did not raid" the clinic, she told the AFP news agency.

"What this is is the Los Angeles police department have an investigation and they came to the Drug Enforcement Agency, and they asked us to help them effect a state search warrant here," she added.

Dr Murray’s lawyer, Edward Chernoff, said earlier his client had been helping police with their inquiries.

Mr Chernoff said investigators had asked for medical records in addition to those already provided by Murray.

"The coroner wants to clear up the cause of death; we share that goal," said Mr Chernoff in a statement on his law firm’s website on Tuesday.

Painkiller denial

Speaking a few days after Jackson’s death, Mr Chernoff denied Dr Murray administered painkilling drugs that could have contributed to the singer’s death.

"Dr Murray is frustrated by negative and often erroneous media reports – he has to walk around 24/7 with a bodyguard"

Any drugs his client may have given to Jackson were in response to a specific health complaint, the lawyer added.

He said the star still had a faint pulse and was warm when Dr Murray found him in bed.

Mr Chernoff said: "He just happened to find him in his bed, and he wasn’t breathing."

Paramedics were called to Jackson’s Los Angeles mansion while Dr Murray was performing CPR, according to a recording of the 911 call.

Mr Chernoff said in Tuesday’s statement that Dr Murray had since received unwelcome attention from those angry over the singer’s untimely death.

"Dr Murray was the last doctor standing when Michael Jackson died and it seems all the fury is directed toward him," Mr Chernoff said.

He added: "Dr Murray is frustrated by negative and often erroneous media reports – he has to walk around 24/7 with a bodyguard.

"He can’t operate his practice. He can’t go to work because he is harassed no matter where he goes."</p

Jackson death ‘treated as homicide’

Police refuse to comment on report that investigation into singer’s death is focusing on Dr Conrad Murray and anaesthesia Propofol

Los Angeles police are refusing to comment on a report that detectives are treating Michael Jackson’s death as homicide after concluding that the singer was killed by a powerful anaesthetic.

The TMZ website, which broke the news of Jackson’s death, cites multiple law enforcement sources as saying that the investigation is focusing on Dr Conrad Murray after evidence pointed to the anaesthesia Propofol as the cause of death. Investigators believe the drug, which is administered intravenously and is usually used only in hospitals in controlled conditions, was given to help Jackson sleep because he suffered from chronic insomnia.

Murray has said he found Jackson on the day he died and tried to revive him with CPR. His lawyers deny he “furnished or prescribed” Jackson with drugs.

TMZ quotes law enforcement sources as allegedly saying there is “plenty of powerful evidence” that Murray administered the drug to Jackson. The evidence includes an intravenous drip stand and an oxygen tank found in the star’s home.

Police sources have told the US press that Murray is not co-operating with the investigation. He has been interviewed twice under caution, which led detectives to conduct a second search of Jackson’s home, during which vials of Propofol were discovered.

Investigators’ suspicions were also aroused by the delay in calling the emergency services after it was discovered that Murray waited up to 30 minutes.

Murray’s lawyer would neither confirm nor deny that his client administered Propofol to Jackson. The police said there would be no public comment on the investigation until it was complete.
