The Sword Drummer Quits; All Tour Dates Cancelled
CANCELLED DATES TO BE RESCHEDULED
![]() The Sword |
On the heels of the cancellation of their European tour, Austin, TX’s
The Sword are also
regretfully canceling the remainder of their scheduled US dates due to the departure of their drummer, Trivett
Wingo.
“It is with deep sadness that I am announcing my departure from The Sword. After nearly seven years and some of
the most amazing adventures of a lifetime, I have arrived at a place where I am physically and emotionally unable to
continue on as part of The Sword. If I could go any further, I would as I love the music and JD, Bryan and Kyle are
people that I deeply respect, but I have reached a point where I just can’t do this anymore. I would like to thank the
wonderful people who made this experience what it has been: the fans, the people that I have worked and all of the
bands and musicians that have inspired me over the years. I thank you and apologize for any disappointment that
this may cause anyone, not least of which The Sword.” – Trivett Wingo
Here is an official statement from The Sword:
“We wish Trivett nothing but the best, and it is with heavy hearts that we bid him farewell. He is a phenomenal
musician and has been an integral part of this band’s success. He helped to lay the foundation that we will continue
to build upon, and we wouldn’t be where we are without him. We wish he could continue the adventure with us, but
we understand that the life of a touring musician is not for everyone. It’s been a hell of a ride, and we’re sad to see
this part of the journey end. The show must go on, though, and will be back on the road as soon as humanly
possible.” - JD, Kyle & Bryan

Little Feat’s Richie Hayward: R.I.P.
CO-FOUNDER AND DRUMMER OF VENERABLE ROCKERS PASSES
Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward died Thursday night, August 12, after a long fight with liver cancer. A percussionist of endless swing, power and drive, Hayward helped found one of the longest running rock bands and was their anchor in their legendary live shows. He passed away at the age of 64 while awaiting a liver transplant.
He last performed with Little Feat on July 11. Shortly after that in an open letter, Hayward stated, “My intent is to come back to the band, as soon as I am physically able. Your love and support will mean a lot to me, more than I can say. I love and will miss you all, and I will see you again on the proud highway.”
He will be missed, and we welcome readers to share their memories and condolences in our comments section.

The Mars Volta: Another New Drummer
The Mars Volta: Another New Drummer
The Mars Volta |
Following a cancelled show last month in Raleigh, NC, rumors have been flying about the state of The Mars Volta.
Word is that drummer Thomas Pridgen, the band’s skin basher since 2007, walked out of a rehearsal in Raleigh following an argument with vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala. Pridgen confirmed leaving the band on Facebook (thanks to antiquiet.com for the JPG) where he said: “I’m not in TMV anymore but it’s all good. I’m 25, I’ve done enough now not to have to be someone’s employee… I feel more free, honestly it’s a good feeling.”
The circumstances behind Pridgen’s departure are familiar to those who have been following the band’s evolution. Previous drummer Jon Theodore left in a similar manner. Bottom line seems to be it’s Omar and Cedric’s way, or the highway.
Dave Elitch has replaced Pridgen and is currently touring with the band in Europe.
Here’s a clip from last night’s show (11.29, Norway) featuring Elitch:

Gerhardt (Jerry) Fuchs Dies In Tragic Accident
Maserati, LCD Soundsystem and The Juan MacLean drummer Gerhardt “Jerry” Fuchs died in a tragic accident on Sunday. After attending a benefit party in Brooklyn, Fuchs was stuck on an elevator between the fourth and fifth floors. He was attempting to jump from the stalled elevator to the fourth floor opening when his jacket got tangled up and he missed the ledge, falling to the bottom of the elevator shaft. He was pronounced dead at Bellevue Medical Center. He was 34.
The following note is from the Maserati’s website:
It is with overwhelming sadness that we bid farewell to our drummer and dearest friend Gerhardt (Jerry) Fuchs. Jerry died in a tragic accident early this morning (Sunday, November 08, 2009) when he fell down an elevator shaft near his home in Brooklyn, NY. We are humbled to have been able to create music with you for all these years, Jerry. You will be missed more than words can express. We love you, bro.
