Pretty soon your mobile phone will also be able to moonlight as your mobile wallet. Thats right, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile have teamed up to create a new mobile commerce network, calling it ISIS. It will work by using near-field communication technology with short-range, high-frequency wireless technology to enable the encrypted exchange of information between devices at a short distance. The tri-network venture has a customer-base of over 200 million and expects to launch in “key geographic markets” in the next 18 months; Facebook has announced a new unified messaging system that provides users with e-mail. Users will also have the ability to communicate with one another on the Web and on mobile phones regardless of whether they are using e-mail, text messaging, or online chat services. The new service encourages users to sign up for an e-mail address ending in @facebook.com, but of course will not be mandatory; With 2011 right around the corner, what do you all believe will be the key business trends of 2011? And what are the technologies to watch as we enter the new year? Our VP of Strategic Content Eric Lundquist sums it up in his new article: “Five Technologies That Will Change the Enterprise B2B Business in 2011,” and we share them with you here; Dells earnings are beating forecasts. The computer company said that revenue saw strong gains in every unit except consumer products. And heres perhaps one reason for that. According to a recent article in The New York Times, a judge in North Carolina unsealed hundreds of documents linked to a lawsuit filed by Advanced Internet Technologies that had accused Dell of trying to hide defects in its desktop computers from customers. And thats exactly what was found in the documents we have all the details.

Data protectionism : Serfing the web
A small spat highlights a big issue: who owns your online identity?
SUCH is Facebook’s attraction these days that even Britain’s monarch has finally joined the 500m-plus users of the online social network. On November 8th Queen Elizabeth II launched a Facebook page to publicise the royal family’s doings. Within a day, it had attracted almost 200,000 “likes” from around the world plus messages such as “Hello Liz xxx”. But it had also turned into a forum for an acrimonious slanging match between supporters of the monarchy and its critics.
Buckingham Palace says that the Queen’s e-mail address, if she has one, is secret. But it will not end in gmail.com. That will spare her from another wrangle—a kind of digital trade war. On November 5th Google introduced a technical change that blocks its e-mail users from automatically transferring their electronic address book in one lump when they set up a Facebook account. It is part of Google’s efforts to defend its dominance of the internet from Facebook’s growing challenge (as is Google’s announcement this week giving all its 23,000 employees a 10% pay rise and a $1,000 bonus, which is an attempt to halt defections to Facebook). …

MAS won’t intervene on SGD at current level: Source
Singapore MAS comfortable with recent rise in local dollar vs US dollar, won’t intervene near current USD/SGD levels, source familiar with central bank thinking says.
Also, MAS likely to stand pat at next policy review in October.
“The rise hasn’t been dramatic and at current levels the Singapore dollar is competitive for our exports,” source says, adding MAS unlikely to intervene unless USD/SGD falls “clearly and sustainably closer to $1.34.”
Pair last 1.3629 vs 1.3625 Friday close.

Paedophilia and the Catholic church: Evil orders
The growing scandal about child abuse reaches the top of the Vatican
A SUBTLY disquieting photograph greets visitors to the website of the northern Italian diocese of Bozen-Brixen. The dark recesses of a sunken passageway end in a flight of steps leading to daylight. A click leads to an e-mail address for reporting sexual or physical abuse by priests. The first person to use it spoke anonymously to the newspaper Corriere della Sera. As a wartime evacuee, he recalled how a village curate “felt my trousers, tried to kiss me and asked me to caress him”. His younger brother told him the priest was still molesting boys 13 years later.
The web initiative has recently been praised as an exercise in openness and may be extended to other parts of Italy. Yet the e-mail address had long been on the site, and came to prominence only amid the mushrooming worldwide scandal involving hundreds of people molested by priests or in church-run institutions. …

Google Wave Pushes AppJet to Sell Out to Google
Google purchased real-time document collaboration startup AppJet to fortify the Google Wave real-time collaboration platform Dec. 4. The move was a sell out from a company that felt it couldn’t compete with the sheer scope of Wave and Google, Y Combinator partner Paul Graham said. Now EtherPad is no longer accepting new customers and anyone who have registered an e-mail address with EtherPad will be e-mailed an invitation to join the Google Wave preview by December 31, 2009. EtherPad users are angry and Graham’s explanation of why AppJet quit is unlikely to appease them.
