Singapore’s DBS says H1 looks promising for earnings

DBS Group (DBSM.SI), Southeast Asia’s biggest lender, said on Wednesday the first half of this year looks positive for its earnings. 
 
“Overall it looks very promising for the first half,” Chairman Koh Boon Hwee told reporters in Singapore, referring to both earnings and the economy. 
 
He said there could be changes in the regulatory environment in the second half of this year, but the bank is reasonably optimistic.

Hong Leong Asia rises to near 2-year high on earnings outlook

Hong Leong Asia rose to its highest level in almost two years on speculation earnings will continue to grow this year as its business in China benefits from government stimulus measures. The stock advanced 9.7% to $3.16 as of 10:56 a.m., set for its highest closing level since Jan 18, 2008.

Earnings upgrades for Singapore stocks to continue in 2010, says Credit Suisse

The Singapore market should continue to be propelled by consensus earnings upgrades in 2010, says Credit Suisse.

“Notwithstanding the nine consecutive months of consensus earnings upgrades in 2009, we expect this trend to continue into 2010 on a more positive outlook on top-line growth and margin,” says the Swiss investment bank.

Credit Suisse also says opening of new integrated resorts should boost tourist traffic, help transport plays, although it believes expectations for potential gaming revenues could be too high.

Genting earnings rebound on UK casino cost-cutting

Genting Bhd., Asia’s biggest publicly traded casino operator by market value, returned to profit in the third quarter after cutting costs at its UK casinos and on higher earnings from its Malaysian gambling resort.

The Kuala Lumpur-listed company posted net income of 371.2 million ringgit ($45 million) after losing 40.4 million ringgit in the same period a year earlier. Revenue increased to 2.4 billion ringgit from 2.37 billion ringgit a year earlier, the company said in a statement today.

Hyflux rises on earnings; CIMB, OCBC raise price estimates

Shares of Hyflux, the largest water treatment company traded in Singapore, rose after posting higher earnings and CIMB Investment Bank Bhd. and Oversea- Chinese Banking Corp. raised their price estimates.

The stock climbed 6% to $2.65 at the 12:30 p.m. break in Singapore, the highest since Sept 11.

Microsoft Earnings Fall Sharply Ahead of Windows 7 Launch
