Good Old War: U.S. Tour Dates

INDIE ROCK TRIO GOOD OLD WAR ANNOUNCE U.S. TOUR DATES

SELF-TITLED ALBUM OUT JUNE 1 ON SARGENT HOUSE RECORDS

Good Old War

Philadelphia indie rock trio Good Old
War
announced new U.S. tour dates, beginning May 1 at SUNY Oneonta in New York where they will
support fun. with Person L opening shows. The band
will appear at the Bamboozle festival in East Rutherford, NJ on May 2, before kicking off a several-week tour on
May 20 in Philadelphia, PA with Yukon
Blonde
and Audra
Mae
. Full tour dates below.

Good Old War is gearing up for the release of their self-titled album, which arrives June 1 on Sargent House. They
recently played several shows at the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX and completed a short run of dates with
Circa Survive.

Good Old War’s sophomore release is the result of several winter months spent holed up in a remote house in the
Pocono Mountains, where band mates Keith Goodwin, Dan Schwartz and Tim Arnold
crafted this earnest, original collection of songs in near-isolation. The album explores weightier topics such as love,
loss and addiction, and the band experimented with new instruments, techniques and conventions to push the
boundaries of their familiar indie rock/folk territory.

MGMT: Spring Tour

MGMT SET COURSE FOR SPRING 2010 TOUR

CONGRATULATIONS IN STORES APRIL 13

MGMT

This Spring MGMT will set out on a tour of North America in support of their sophomore release Congratulations, in stores April 13, 2010. U.S. tour dates kick off with a pair of back to back, sold out shows at San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore on April 12 and 13. The band returns to Indio, CA on April 17 to deliver another memorable performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Following their first festival debut of the year, the band will continue touring through out the summer, also performing at Bamboozle on May 2 and Lollapalooza on August 8th (see below for full itinerary).

With the release of Congratulations, MGMT continue to evolve their visionary and groundbreaking style of music. Critics are cheering Congratulations for its sincerity and originality. Spin described the new music as “uncommonly, emotionally honest” while MOJO declared it “the post-punk Brit-psych masterpiece of the year… a reinvention so fully realized” in their 5 star review. MGMT will perform selections from Congratulations when they make their debut appearance on Saturday Night Live on April 24. MGMT also return to perform on The Late Show with David Letterman on May 11.

A video for the song “Flash Delirium” debuted this month giving fans a glimpse into the band’s interpretation of the confusing state of the world in modern times. Directed by Andreas Nilsson (Fever Ray, Goldfrapp) the video features a surrealistic homecoming that goes awry in tempest of destruction and confusion. “Flash Delirium” can be seen at www.whoismgmt.com.

Slayer/Megadeth/Testament: Set New Tour Dates

SLAYER, MEGADETH ANNOUNCE NEW, CONFIRMED SCHEDULE FOR
AMERICAN CARNAGE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Slayer

Slayer and Megadeth are thrilled to announce confirmed routing for the American Carnage North American Tour, which will commence with the rescheduled Canadian Carnage East dates in Quebec City on Friday, July 23.

Slayer will then head to Europe for a run of festival dates, returning to kick off the American Carnage leg in Albany, NY on August 11. American Carnage will play 26 dates across the United States and Eastern Canada up to the Labor Day weekend, ending in Portland, OR on September 4. Testament will be Special Guest on all shows.

Tickets purchased for the American Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for these rescheduled dates. Complete information regarding ticket sales can be found at Slayer’s wesbite, Megadeth’s site and/or Testament’s site.

Due to venue availability and other conflicts, the shows originally scheduled in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth, and Louisville cannot be rescheduled at this time, and ticket holders may obtain refunds at point of purchase. However, new cities have been added to the American Carnage itinerary, with dates now scheduled in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego, and Sacramento. The confirmed, complete itinerary is below.

The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to Slayer’s vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya‘s ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate. That surgery took place early last week.

“The doctors said that Tom’s surgery went very smoothly and was a resounding success,” said Rick Sales, long-time Slayer manager. “He’s home now, doing really well, and he said the numbness in his fingers had already diminished considerably.”

Shortly after the surgery, Slayer’s Kerry King received a text from Tom: “Awake and feeling good, actually whatever he did, it feels better.”

The American Carnage Tour will mark the first time that Slayer, Megadeth and Testament will have toured the U.S. together since 1991′s epic Clash of the Titans tour, making this truly a “must-see” event.

Slayer recently announced the rescheduling of its headline tour in the U.K. and Europe, and Megadeth and Testament are currently on tour together playing U.S. cities that will not be on the American Carnage itinerary.

Slayer, Megadeth, Testament: American Carnage Tour

SLAYER, MEGADETH TEAM UP FOR AMERICAN CARNAGE TOUR
Co-Headliners to Tour the U.S. Together For the First Time in Nearly Two Decades,
Testament to be Special Guest, Recession-Proof $10.00 Tickets Available in All U.S. Markets

    Slayer

Slayer. Megadeth. Two names synonymous with fierce, crunching power. Two bands whose histories are inevitably intertwined in defining the thrash/metal genre. Megadeth and Slayer will join forces to co-headline the American Carnage tour, which will kick off on January 18 in Seattle, WA for a 26-date trek across North America that will include the six Canadian dates postponed earlier this month. Tickets for most shows go on sale this Friday, November 20. Ticketmaster is offering a special presale for most shows from Wednesday, November 18 at 10AM until Thursday, November 19 at 10PM.

American Carnage is the first time that Slayer and Megadeth will have toured the U.S. together since 1991′s epic Clash of the Titans tour. To celebrate that, and in recognition of the tough economic times that many of their fans are having, Megadeth and Slayer have decided to roll back the price of a chunk of tickets at every U.S. show to the “1991 price” of $10.00. These specially-priced tickets will be limited and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Megadeth has also teamed with iloveallaccess.com to provide an Ultimate Fan Package including premium seats, meet and greets, pre-show parties and more.

In addition, Testament, who was also on the ’91 Clash of the Titans bill, will be special guests on the entire tour, marking the first time that all three bands have shared a stage together in more than 18 years, and making this a “must see” metal event.

Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road supporting new albums: Megadeth’s 2009 album, ENDGAME, and Slayer’s World Painted Blood, the band’s 10th studio venture, which hit stores November 3. Testament’s The Formation of Damnation: Special Tour Edition, will be released on February 23, 2010 with special unreleased bonus tracks.

Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S., first with four explosive dates in June 2009 across Western Canada – Canadian Carnage – marking the first time the bands had shared a stage anywhere in 18 years; and then six co-headlining Carnage dates in Australia followed in October.

According to various Canadian press outlets last summer: “It was a night of thrash impossible to trash…” “Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun…” “The two heavy metal heavyweights…went head-to-head on a level playing field. Both bands brought their ‘A’ game. And the results were anything but pretty – unless you include pretty freakin’ loud and pretty freakin’ awesome.”

Springsteen To Perform Full Albums at Giants Stadium

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND TO PERFORM

FULL ALBUM SEQUENCES DURING GIANTS STADIUM RUN

BORN TO RUN, DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN, BORN IN THE USA TO BE PERFORMED IN THEIR ENTIRETY

E Street Band :: 09.20.09 :: Chicago by Chad Smith

In response to the overwhelming fan enthusiasm at Chicago’s Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band live performance of the album Born to Run (read the JamBase review here), Springsteen has decided to perform one classic album each night at East Rutherford, NJ’s Giants Stadium:

09.30 Giants Stadium Born To Run

    10.02 Giants Stadium
Darkness on the Edge of Town

10.03 Giants Stadium Born In The USA

10.08 Giants Stadium Born To Run

10.09 Giants Stadium Born In The USA

In Chicago, Bruce began with a varied set list, performed the album portion of the show in the middle of the concert, and continued the show through its grand finale. Said long time manager Jon Landau, “Chicago convinced us that this was really worth doing. The audience was so supportive of the concept that it convinced us to go ahead with this at Giants Stadium.”

Chicago Tribune‘s Greg Kot called that city’s performance “epic,” continuing, “they delivered and then some.”

Kings of Leon | 09.12 | New Jersey

Kings of Leon :: 09.12.09 :: IZOD Center :: East Rutherford, NJ

Kings of Leon :: 09.12 :: New Jersey

Years from now when people ask me what great American rock music sounded like in the 2000s, I will probably play them some Kings of Leon.

The band’s music is refreshingly uncomplicated and lacking in pretense. They make straight-ahead rock music that’s not beholden to the limitations or whims of any particular scene, trend, emotion, plight, or technology. Somehow, it seems revolutionary to hear modern rock music be so real, tuneful and intelligent, yet hard driving and raw. And seeing it performed by a group of young men who aren’t rock star caricatures baring their chests, piercings and tattoos, or harboring Behind the Music style drama and angst, is a more than welcome bonus.

On a critical note, KOL never gave the crowd much in way of stage theatrics, and it did take them a few songs to hit their stride. “Molly’s Chambers,” an early hit, arrived early in their set and lacked the intensity it has on record. It seemed to swing more than drive things forward. But, once they loosened up by about four or five songs in, they did their material justice. While I would have rather seen them in a small, sweaty club – and sensed that they would rather be performing in a smaller venue – they showed that they have a right to the throne. This is one of the great American rock bands of our day, replete with a manly-man lead vocalist (Caleb Followill) and an impeccable rhythm section. With his rowdy, sexy lyrics, baritone full of attitude and beard, Caleb is reminiscent of Jim Morrison and Chris Cornell.

While KOL didn’t do much onstage “show” wise, an incredible over-the-top light rig mixed with live videography and film footage enabled the band to fill out the venue with their music and presence.

At several points in the set, Caleb commented that they felt honored to be performing in the arena most closely associated with the pride of the Garden State, Bruce Springsteen. “He was 56 when he last played here. I’m 27,” the singer said. He seemed awe-struck, but he and his bandmates, two brothers on bass and drums and a cousin playing lead guitar, have rightfully earned their success and large following. Great showmen these Followills of Tennessee are not, but world-class rockers, musicians, and songwriters they most certainly are.

To paraphrase a line from Frank Zappa, “Rock music’s not dead. It just smells funny.” If you’re inclined to agree, then perhaps Kings of Leon are the band to change your mind. It smells good these days. It’s about fuckin’ time.

Kings of Leon are on tour now; dates available here.
