Great Eastern said to sell $400m of 4.6% 15-year notes

Great Eastern Holdings, the Singapore insurance company, sold $400 million of 4.6 percent 15-year bonds, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The company set up a $1 billion multi-currency medium-term notes facility on Jan. 10, and appointed Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. and Morgan Stanley to manage it, according to a Singapore stock exchange announcement.

Great Eastern said to plan benchmark sale of 15-year bonds

Great Eastern Holdings, the Singapore insurance company, plans a benchmark sale of 15-year bonds denominated in Singapore dollars, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The notes may be priced to yield around the 4.75% area, the person said, asking not to be identified as details are private.

Great Eastern establishes $1b bond program

Great Eastern Holdings, the insurance company controlled by Singapore’s second-largest bank, set up a $1 billion multi-currency medium-term note program.

Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. and Morgan Stanley will manage the program, which may lead to sales of senior or subordinated, fixed- or floating-rate notes, according to a statement to the Singapore stock exchange today.

China Eastern, SIA invest in cargo carrier: Update

China Eastern Airlines Corp., Singapore Airlines and partners agreed to combine three air-cargo carriers to bolster their presence in Shanghai, mainland China’s busiest freight hub.

China Eastern, Singapore Air’s cargo unit, a unit of Taiwan-based EVA Airways Corp. and China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co. will invest a total of 2.05 billion yuan ($405 million) in China Cargo Airlines to support its acquisition of two other freight carriers, according to a Hong Kong stock exchange statement today.

Malaysia’s Great Eastern Takaful plans regional growth

Malaysian Islamic insurer Great Eastern Takaful will expand to Indonesia and Brunei to tap the Muslim market for sharia-compliant products, its chief executive officer said on Monday.

The company, which is owned by a subsidiary of Singapore’s Great Eastern Holdings (GELA.SI) and Malaysia’s armed forces cooperative, also has Singapore and China on its radar for expansion.

China Eastern, Singapore Air invest in air-cargo combination

China Eastern Airlines Corp., Singapore Airlines’s cargo unit and two other companies agreed to invest 2.05 billion yuan ($405 million) in China Cargo Airlines to support the takeover of two other freight carriers.

China Eastern will invest 1.05 billion yuan in China Cargo and receive a 51% stake, according to a Hong Kong stock exchange statement today. Singapore Air’s cargo unit and Concord Pacific, a unit of Taiwan-based EVA Airways Corp., will invest 328 million yuan each and get 16% apiece. China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co. will put up 348.5 million yuan for a 17% stake.

Singapore shares may open higher today after Wall Street rallied overnight, as investors put aside worries about swirling global problems and focused on an improvement in the labour market and consumer sentiment. The following companies may have unusual price changes in Singapore trading today, say Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters. Share prices are from the previous close. Singapore’s Straits Times Index gained 0.3% to 3,137.01.

Palm-oil producers: Crude palm oil for February delivery rose 1.7% in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, snapping its two-day drop of 6.3%. Golden Agri-Resources (GGR SP), the world’s second- biggest palm-oil producer, advanced 3.7% to 71 cents. Indofood Agri Resources (IFAR SP), the palm-oil unit of Indonesia’s biggest noodle maker, jumped 4.7% to $2.65. Wilmar International (WIL SP), the world’s largest palm-oil trader, rose 0.2% to $6.03.

Great Eastern appoints Christopher Wei as group CEO: Update

Great Eastern Holdings, the insurance company controlled by Singapore’s largest bank, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp., appointed Christopher Wei as group chief executive officer, according to a statement.
Wei, whose appointment is effective from Feb. 10, was most recently group chief marketing officer at American Insurance Assurance Company, Great Eastern said in a stock-exchange announcement today. Wei replaces Ng Keng Hooi, who resigned in September, according to a company statement at the time.
 
Great Eastern last month reported third-quarter profit of $168.6 million , up from $33.6 million a year earlier. The insurer is 85% held by Oversea-Chinese, currently Singapore’s biggest lender by market capitalization.

Great Eastern +2.2%; 3Q earnings rebound

Great Eastern Holdings (G07.SG) +2.2% at $16.06 after company late yesterday reported 3Q net profit of US$168.6 million ($219.5 million), up 5X from year ago, +127% on quarter. 

Credit Suisse, which has stock at Outperform rating, $18.30 target price, says 9-month core net profit of $422 million represents 84% of FY estimates; notes core net profit growth driven by better underwriting profit, lower management expenses.

Great Eastern 3Q net income jumps to $168.6m

Great Eastern Holdings, an insurer controlled by Singapore’s second-largest bank Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp., reported third-quarter net income of $168.6 million, up from $33.6 million a year earlier.

Third-quarter gross premium income fell 7% to $1.66 billion, Great Eastern said in a statement to the Singapore Exchange today.

Great Eastern incorporates Great Eastern Takaful Sdn Bhd in Malaysia

Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation says I Great Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd, the subsidiary of unit Great Eastern Holdings, has incorporated Great Eastern Takaful Sdn Bhd in Malaysia.

Koperasi Angkatan Tentera Malaysia Berhad and I Great will have a 30% interest and 70% interest respectively in the entire issued and paid-up capital of Great Eastern Takaful.

Great Eastern Takaful’s principal activities will be licensed under the Takaful Act 1984 and will consist of carrying on and/or transacting family takaful business in Malaysia.
