Head of the European Commission (EC) Delegation in Serbia Vincent Degert said that Serbia must complete certain legal steps before becoming an EU candidate. He said that there will be a ministerial meeting held in Brussels next week at which Serbia’s candidacy for EU membership will be discussed.

Concern over threats against B92 reporters
The OSCE Mission, EC Delegation and Office of the Council of Europe in Belgrade expressed their concern about threats made against B92 TV reporters. “Silencing the voices of journalists has a discouraging effect on the development of democracy which needs an atmosphere free of intimidation,†reads a joint statement that came in the wake of threats made against B92 TV journalist Brankica Stanković, whose investigative program Insajder (Insider) recently explored hooliganism and crime.
MUP, EC in border management project
Serbia’s Interior Ministry (MUP) and the EC mission in Belgrade presented a twinning project aimed at better border management. Interior Minister Ivica DaÄić and Head of the EC Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert introduced the project, that will facilitate the flow of people and capital, while increasing the efficiency in suppressing criminal activities.
“SAA could be unblocked by end of year”
EC delegation in Serbia chief Vincent Degert says it is “realistic” to expect that the SAA would be unblocked by the end of the year. The Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Serbia was signed in late April 2008, and immediately suspended, pending Belgrade’s full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.
French diplomat to become new EC delegation head?
The new head of the EC delegation to Serbia, upon outgoing head Josep Lloveras’s departure, will most likely be French diplomat Vincent Degert, Tanjug reports. Degert currently heads the European Commission (EC) delegation to Croatia.
