Phosphorescent: Tour w/ David Gray

PHOSPHORESCENT ON TOUR WITH DAVID GRAY THIS SPRING

Phosphorescent

Last fall, Phosphorescent bassist Jeff Bailey was watching a primetime news show when British songwriter David Gray appeared for an interview. The interviewer inquires as to what Gray is listening to on his iPod and he responds, “Frank Sinatra, and an album called Pride by Phosphorescent.”

Admittedly skeptical, the band did a quick internet search and found Gray singing the praises of Phosphorescent to Entertainment Weekly and a Spin review of a David Gray performance, which mentions that Gray opened the show by “emerging from the darkness to the narcotic strains of Phosphorescent’s ‘Cocaine Lights’.”

A month or so passes when an email shows up in the inbox of Phosphorescent’s Matthew Houck from Gray himself, with enthusiastic support for the music and an open ended invitation to open any of Gray’s upcoming tour dates. Phosphorescent accepted the invite and will soon be hitting the road with Gray throughout the United States and Europe.

Phosphorescent is also nearly complete with their upcoming album; details will be announced very soon.

Check out a video of the band performing “A Picture Of Our Torn Up Praise” at the American Songwriter Magazine offices here.

John Hiatt: The Open Road

JOHN HIATT TO RELEASE THE OPEN ROAD MARCH 2

John Hiatt

Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt‘s brand new album, The Open Road, due out March 2 via New West Records. The legendary songwriter’s 19th studio album is classic Hiatt, picking up the tempo and returning to rock following his previous critically acclaimed Same Old Man.

Backed by his touring band, (Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O’Hearn on bass and Doug Lancio on guitars), the songs are inspired by life on the road, without looking back. “All the other years, my songs are about coming home,” Hiatt says.

Hiatt will take the new songs on the road beginning with a run of international dates with Lyle Lovett. Upon returning to the states, he will appear on the 3rd annual Cayamo Cruise, on which he’s played since the first voyage. Tour dates in North America will follow in March, with stops in New York City on March 10 followed by Pittsburgh, DC and Annapolis, which is already sold out.

Hiatt has written songs covered by a multitude of artists in a wide variety of genres including Bob Dylan, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson, Jewel and Bonnie Raitt, who most famously recorded “Thing Called Love.” On The Open Road he showcases both his lyrical and musical talent with his blues driven, rock songs including the title track and “Haulin’.” Hiatt produced The Open Road himself after recording with his band in his garage-turned-studio.

Al Di Meola: Live CD, U.S. Tour

JAZZ GUITARIST RETURNS WITH LIVE FROM SEATTLE AND ELSEWHERE
ANNOUNCES TWO MONTH U.S. TOUR

Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola – the “guitarist of spectacular abilities” (NY Times) lauded both as musical trailblazer and technical virtuoso – will kick off a two-month U.S. tour on January 28, 2010 with his acoustic group World Sinfonia. The dates will follow on the heels of a new live album, Live From Seattle And Elsewhere, consisting entirely of Di Meola originals, and slated for full national release on January 12.

Mixing lush, tango-inspired romanticism – heavily influenced by late Argentine master Astor Piazzolla, a friend and mentor – with Latin influences drawn both from Spanish traditions and Di Meola’s own Italian heritage, Live From Seattle And Elsewhere expresses Di Meola’s considerable range.
