Desktops, Laptops Now Get EMC Avamar Deduplication Backup

EMC Avamar is now providing, via the latest version of its Avamar deduplication and NetWorker backup software, enterprise-quality data backup for desktop and laptop computers. The client runs scheduled backups that include deduplication, so that only new documents and changes to existing files and data are sent to storage.

EMC Profits Down 24% but Revenue Beats Street Predictions

Storage company EMC reports overall third-quarter revenue is down 5 percent from a year ago. Nonetheless, EMC, which predicted overall 2009 earnings of 87 cents per common stock share, posted a performance that surpassed most Wall Street expectations in the slow-moving world economy.

reported Oct. 22 that it banked $298 million in profit in the third quarter on

Pat Gelsinger, who has been in charge of Intels core chip businesses, will leave Intel for storage giant EMC, according to reports in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. EMC Acquires eDiscovery Specialist Kazeon Systems

EMC will pay about $75 million for Kazeon, which makes a physical appliance that features a full menu of ediscovery, litigation and analytics software for corporations, legal service providers, law firms and consultants.

Richard Egan, co-founder of data storage and data management technology company EMC, died Friday. The Boston Herald newspaper reported on its Website that Egan was battling terminal cancer and died of a shotgun wound to the head.

EMC Profits Fall 43%

Storage giant EMC’s earnings dropped to $205.2 million from $360.1 million in second-quarter 2008, EMC reports. Overall income was down 11 percent to $3.26 billion. However, CEO Joe Tucci is optimistic, saying he believes a return to higher numbers may not be far away.
