Citrix, Microsoft Partner to Offer Disaster Recovery for Virtual Environments

In its Citrix Essentials 5.5 for Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix is integrating its StorageLink Site Recovery feature, which gives user greater disaster recovery capabilities for their Hyper-V-based virtual data centers. Users can test out disaster recovery scenarios, and manage their DR services through a single console.

New IBM VMControl Eases Management of Virtualized Environments

IBMs VMControl software for enterprises is aimed at giving businesses greater control of their data centers. The software, combined with IBMs Tivoli products, brings together physical and virtualized resources from servers to storage to networking devices into a single pool, which can then be easily allocated depending on the workload demands. The resource pool can be managed from a single point, and can include virtualized systems from other vendors.

NetScout Gives Visibility into Virtualized Environments

NetScout is rolling out its nGenius Virtual Agent, which gives businesses greater visibility into the applications running within their virtualized environments. Virtualization has made it more difficult to monitor, analyze and troubleshoot applications, which can reside within virtual machines on a single physical system and can be moved between virtual machines. The new NetScout technology gives businesses real-time visibility into those environments.

IBM Preps for Power7 Processor Release

IBM is offering what it is calling an easy upgrade path for Power6-based server users who will want to move to Power7 when it is available in the first half of 2010. Power7 will offer greater virtualization capabilities, as well as two to three times the performance within the same power envelope. In addition, IBM announced System Director VMControl, which offers businesses an easier way to manage their virtualized environments.
