“NATO expansion creates divisions”

Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin has stated that there is no reason for NATO’s further expansion because it will create new divisions.

“Expansion policy of NATO, which represents not only a political but also a military alliance, creates new lines of division and it’s a question of security for us,” he told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik.

Asiatravel off 5.6%; Execution risk in expansion: Kim Eng

Asiatravel.com (5AM.SG) off 5.6% at $0.425 after its FY10 net profit comes in 64% lower at $2.06 million, despite revenue +17% at $83.9 million.

Kim Eng says results below expectations; "the disappointing performance was due to higher operating expenses arising from aggressive launches of new products and sales channels. Consequently, no final dividend was declared and full-year total dividend was 0.6 cents per share."

Dark pool operator Tora eyes expansion into HK, Singapore

Goldman Sachs (GS.N)-backed Tora, a dark pool operator in Japan, plans to expand into Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia next year, its chief operating officer said.

U.S.-based Tora launched its Crosspoint dark pool service in Japan in February 2010 and says it provides traders with access to more than 5% of the orders passing through the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Singapore forecasts record expansion in 2010; currency climbs

Singapore said its economy will expand a record 15% this year, the fastest pace in Asia, even as slowing global growth threatens to damp export demand. The island’s currency rose.

Gross domestic product will grow 4% to 6% in 2011, the trade ministry said in a statement. The economy, vulnerable to swings in demand for its drugs and electronics, shrank less than previously estimated in the third quarter. The nation, which has had three recessions in the past decade, won’t experience one this year, the government said today.

Rompuy urges EU expansion in first “Europe Address”

Stemcor raises $149.4m for expansion with first Asian loan

Stemcor Holdings Ltd.’s Singapore- based unit agreed to borrow US$115 million ($149.4 million) in its first Asian syndicated facility.

Proceeds from the one-year revolving loan will be used for general corporate purposes and to help the London-based company expand in the region, Stemcor said in an e-mailed statement.

Keppel Merlimau Cogen plant starts 800MW expansion

Keppel Energy, the wholly- owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation, will commence the 800 MW expansion of its natural gas-fired Keppel Merlimau Cogen plant (KMC), on Jurong Island.

Expected to be completed by 2013, the expansion will boost KMC’s generation capacity to 1,300 MW from its current capacity of 500 MW.

When completed, KMC will be fuelled by both piped natural gas and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to be supplied from the new Jurong Island LNG terminal. The total investment is expected to be around S$900 million. Keppel Energy will be using internally generated cash and external borrowings to fund the expansion.

NATO expansion is threat, says Russian army chief

Russian Army Chief of the General Staff Gen. Nikolai Makarov says that NATO’s expansion plans represent a threat. The general, who is currently visiting Serbia, told Belgrade daily Politika that this applied to the western military alliance’s expansion close to the Russian borders.

Ziwo Holdings announces $24m expansion plan to boost production capacity

Mainboard-listed Ziwo Holdings, the China-based raw material producer of import substitution products, today announced that it plans to invest around RMB123.8 million ($24 million) to expand its production facilities to meet rising demand for its products.

Ziwo says the investment will be funded using the group’s internally generated funds and/or, if required, loans from financial institutions.

Fortress’s Levinson to lead Asia expansion in move to Singapore

Fortress Investment Group LLC’s Adam Levinson, co-chief investment officer of global macro funds, will move to Singapore to lead the New York-based buyout and hedge-fund firm’s expansion in Asia.

Fortress will have an investment team of about 10 people in its new office in the city-state, Levinson, 40, said in an Oct. 1 interview from New York. He will start working in Singapore early next year.

Noble Group plans an expansion into supplies of nuclear fuel

Noble Group, which counts China’s sovereign wealth fund as a shareholder, plans to expand into supplies of nuclear fuel to meet rising demand from China and India, its executive chairman said.

The company bought a 5.1% stake in USEC Inc., a U.S. provider of enriched uranium producing 50% of the fuel in the world, Tobias Brown said in an interview in Singapore today. Of all the nuclear plants being built, about half are in China, he said.

China XLX Fertiliser up on expansion plans

Shares of Singapore-listed China XLX Fertiliser <CXLX.SI> rose as much as 6% on Monday on plans to construct a fourth urea production plant in China for 3 billion yuan ($592 million), traders said.

At 9:29 a.m., shares of China XLX were up 4.3% to $0.605, and 6.2 million shares had changed hands.

China Hongxing surges on expansion plans

Shares of Singapore-listed Chinese sportswear maker China Hongxing (CHXS.SI) rose as much as 8.1% to a seven-month high on Tuesday after the firm told Reuters it plans to open 2,000 new stores by end-2011.

At around 0704 GMT, China Hongxing’s shares were traded at $0.20, with over 57.4 million changing hands. It was the day’s third most actively traded stock by volume.
