Music fans can now download the second and final free track from the forthcoming Bright Eyes album The
People’s Key
from Saddle Creek’s website. The first free download, “Shell Games”, is still available.


The People’s Key, Bright Eyes’ seventh studio album, will be released February 15 and is now streaming in
its entirety on NPR’s All Songs Considered “First Listen” website. Click here to listen. The album will also stream on the band’s own YouTube channel
from the same date.

Ascott Residence hopes to double assets, eyes new market

Ascott Residence Trust (ART) (ASRT.SI), which owns serviced apartments in Europe and Asia, is expanding into growth markets like India and Vietnam as it hopes to double assets over the next five years or so , its chief executive officer said.

STI +0.6%; eyes on FOMC this week – Phillip

Singapore’s STI rises 0.6% to 3204.94, bouncing after three consecutive sessions of declines amounting to 2.0%, amid broadly positive regional markets after the DJIA’s rise Friday.

327 million shares have been traded thus far worth $215 million. Phillip Securities technical analyst Phua Ming Weii says the benchmark’s severely oversold short term conditions, which may be helping today’s bounce.

Cosco halted; UOB-KayHian eyes potential restructuring

Cosco Corp (F83.SG) shares are halted pending an announcement, after closing 3.9% higher at $2.42 Wednesday in healthy volume due to speculation over group restructuring. 

UOB-KayHian, which has a Buy rating and $2.50 target, says the restructuring “could result in Cosco Corp acquiring key shipyard assets from Cosco Group, while divesting its dry bulk shipping fleet of 12 vessels to China Cosco. Cosco Corp’s stake in Cosco Shipyard Group would likely be raised to 70% from 51% with the acquisition of a 19% stake from Cosco Group.”

STI off 0.1%; eyes on China GDP Thursday – SIAS

Singapore’s STI is off 0.1% at 3247.19, and has moved in a narrow 5-point band so far, as the market’s recent sideways trade continues.

“The market’s been more or less flat for the last couple of days, so we’re not expecting much movement until Thursday when China will release 4Q GDP results, if the number is quite bullish then we expect some form of cooling measures from Beijing, which would be negative for the market,” says Ng Kian Peck, an investment analyst at SIAS Research.

Hutchison unit eyes $7.7b Singapore listing, record for Southeast Asia

Hutchison Whampoa (0013.HK) plans to spin off its holdings in two ports assets, a move expected to raise US$6 billion ($7.7 billion) in what could be Southeast Asia’s largest ever stock offering.

The listing by Hutchison, a ports-to-telecom conglomerate owned by Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing, will take place on the Singapore Stock Exchange, allowing the company to use the proceeds for investments in its ports and infrastructure business.

Singapore stocks lifted by Sembcorp Marine, eyes China GDP data

Singapore shares were slightly higher at the midday on Tuesday, led by rig-builder Sembcorp Marine (SCMN.SI) after it said it won upgrading and newbuild contracts.

By the midday break, the Straits Times Index (STI) <.FTSTI> was up 6.10 points at 3,244.79. The total value of shares traded in the morning session was $663 million, up slightly from $655.2 million on Monday.

Singapore Exchange 2Q net misses forecasts, eyes ASX merger: Update

Singapore Exchange (SGX) (SGXL.SI) said it was on track to complete a $7.8 billion ($10.1 billion) takeover of Australian bourse operator ASX (ASX.AX) in 2011, but political obstacles to Asia-Pacific’s first major merger of exchanges remain a challenge.

The comments on Tuesday came after SGX missed expectations for its second-quarter profit on higher costs for technology and transactions linked to the bid for ASX.

Lebanon eyes uncertain future

There are fears that the collapse of the Lebanese coalition government could lead to sectarian violence like that seen in 2008. Following the resignation of 11 Hezbollah allied ministers, incumbent Prime Minister Saad Hariri is likely to lead a caretaker government until a new solution is found. The 14 March Movement supports both him and the UN investigation into the murder of his father which prompted the walk-out.

DMG starts Leader Environmental at Buy; eyes $0.53

DMG starts Leader Environmental (LS9.SG) at Buy with a $0.53 target. It says the China-based industrial waste treatment equipment maker is set to grow steadily in the next few years, driven by “favourable regulatory policies in China, its strong presence in the heavily polluted Northern China, and popular desulphurisation systems.”

SPH eyes malls, says magazines a growth business

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) (SPRM.SI) is eyeing further investments in real estate, in particular shopping malls that will provide recurring income, but media will remain the firm’s core business, its chief financial officer said.

Cash-rich SPH, which has a near monopoly of newspaper publishing in Singapore, has been investing in new areas from outdoor advertising to property to offset falling circulation at its main publications as readers shift to the Internet.

NOL cut to Hold from Buy by Phillip; Eyes $2.41

Phillip Securities downgrades Neptune Orient Lines (N03.SG) to Hold from Buy due to limited upside of 11.6% from current share price to fair value estimate of $2.41, which is raised from $2.36 due to higher estimates.

The house is now more optimistic on the outlook of container shipping industry, while “NOL has also ordered new container vessels, which shows it is confident about the future.”

2011 U.S. DATES ANNOUNCED; SECOND RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL SHOW ADDED

In tandem with Bright Eyes
eagerly awaited seventh studio album, The People’s Key (out February 15th on Saddle Creek)
comes the band’s first full run of US dates in over three years. Since 2006 the once revolving cast of Bright Eyes
players has settled around permanent members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nathaniel
Walcott
with an array of talented musicians joining them in the studio and on tour. The 7-piece band will be
kicking off this tour in Miami in March. Due to overwhelming demand an additional Radio City Music Hall show has
been added in New York.
