CLSA ups Suntec REIT to Buy; favours office exposure

CLSA upgrades Suntec REIT (T82U.SG) to Buy vs Outperform, raises target price to $1.60. Says, private placement (at 4.0% discount to VWAP) in-line with other recent equity raising discounts of around 5.0%. 

“The deal is marginally yield accretive…raising DPU marginally by 1.0%-2.0%. In the long run…the deal is a huge positive as it enables Suntec REIT to acquire one of the key office prime jewels in Singapore.”

GIC favours emerging market property, private equity: Update

Government of Singapore Investment Corp., manager of more than US$100 billion ($131.7 billion) of reserves, said real estate and private equity in emerging economies will present more rewarding opportunities than equity markets.
 
“While publicly listed equities is likely to remain GIC’s main implementation vehicle for our emerging market strategy, our view is that the private markets such as real estate and private equities will present even more rewarding opportunities,” GIC’s Chief Investment Officer Ng Kok Song said at a private wealth management conference in Singapore today.

Lion Global favours Singapore banks; wary on Malaysia

Money manager Lion Global is betting Singapore banks will benefit from a resurgent economy and rising interest rates but warns that Malaysia may not push through much-needed reforms, the manager of its Singapore/Malaysia fund said today.

Lion, an arm of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp’s (OCBC.SI) insurance unit Great Eastern (GELA.SI), is also bearish on palm oil stocks and has cut its exposure in recent months, fund manager Kelvin Wong told Thomson Reuters in an interview.

Bangladesh favours reopening rail link with India: Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her government’’s interest in reopening a rail link between Bangladesh and India to establish stronger connectivity between the two neighbouring countries in the fields of trade, investment and people-to-people contacts.
The railway link was severed following 1965 India-Pakistan war and has been non-operational since then.
