Rihanna And Chris Brown Have Secret Weekend Hotel Stay: Report

Could they be making sweet music again?

Just days after Chris Brown publicly apologized for his February beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna, the two spent the weekend at the same luxury Midtown hotel under a cloak of secrecy, The Post has lea…

R&B star Chris Brown apologises to Rihanna

R&B star Chris Brown has issued a public apology for beating up his former girlfriend, singer Rihanna.

Brown said he was “truly, truly sorry”, adding that what he did was unacceptable and that he had apologised to his victim “countless” times.

He is due to be sentenced on 5 August having pleaded guilty to assaulting Rihanna just hours before the pair were due to perform at the Grammy Awards in February.

The attack left Rihanna with heavy bruising and a “mouthful of blood” according to police reports. But Brown is expected to avoid jail when he is sentenced, with a recommendation of six months of community service and probation. Brown was arrested on 8 February, hours after a party in Los Angeles.

According to an affidavit filed by an LA detective, the attack happened in a car when the Umbrella singer checked Brown’s mobile phone and found a text message from another woman.

Detective De Shon Andrews wrote that Brown attempted to push Rihanna out of the vehicle before punching her repeatedly. He also bit her ear, the affidavit stated. He then allegedly threatened to kill her when she pretended to phone her assistant to get police help.

Brown is also alleged to have tried to choke Rihanna.

Following the attack, pictures showing Rihanna’s beaten and swollen face were leaked on to the internet. It led to a spectacular fall from grace for Brown, who had been noted for his clean-cut image.

During a two-minute video on his website, the singer said his lawyer had advised him not to comment on the issue, but he felt compelled to apologise directly to fans.

He said: “I wish I had the chance to live those few moments again, but unfortunately I can’t. I have told Rihanna countless times and I am telling you today that I am truly, truly sorry. What I did was unacceptable – 100%. I can only ask and pray that you forgive me.”

Brown added: “I have let a lot of people down I realise that. Nobody is more disappointed in me than I am.”

Pakistan to try Mumbai suspects

Muslims protest in Mumbai

Pakistan says the trial of five men suspected of involvement in the attack on the Taj Hotel in Mumbai last November is likely to start next week.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said investigations were complete for these suspects and named another 12 men still wanted in connection with the case.

The charges show Pakistan is serious in pursuing suspects in the case despite Indian claims to the contrary, he said.

More than 170 people died in the attacks, including nine gunmen.

India has accused Pakistan-based fighters from the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba of carrying out the attacks.

Pakistan has admitted they were partly planned on its soil and the two countries have suffered seriously strained relations.

Timing

Mr Malik blamed India for any delay in bringing the charges.

He said Pakistan had sent India a list of questions on 12 February but only received answers on 9 June. This had enabled them to put a case together against five suspects already in custody.

There was no immediate response to the claims from Delhi.

Mr Malik said that after seeing how this investigation had been pursued, no-one should be in any doubt that Pakistan was serious in pursuing those responsible for the attacks.

"We are pretty sure that based on the evidence which our investigators have collected, the culprits will be punished," he said.

He said that he wished India had given as much co-operation in finding those responsible for killing Pakistanis when a cross-border train was blown up in February 2007.

The dossier detailing the charges against the five suspects for the Mumbai (Bombay) attack has been handed to the acting Indian high commissioner in Islamabad.

The BBC’s David Loyn in Islamabad says politically this development could not have come at a more opportune time for Pakistan.

The foreign ministers and prime ministers of Pakistan and India will meet next week during the summit of non-aligned nations in Egypt.

In order to begin dialogue again on its terms, Pakistan is eager to counter Indian accusations that it has not done all it can to pursue those responsible for the Mumbai attacks.

Mr Malik said that 15,000 Pakistani citizens had died in terrorist attacks since 2001.

"The terrorist threat in the region knew no boundaries and no-one has been more affected than Pakistan."</p
