United Fiber Systems agreed to buy PT Kutai Chipmill for US$65 million ($90.3 million) through the acquisition of Pacific Global Holding and Pacific Capital Holding from Masba Holding Inc.
At the same time, Falcon Capital Global Holding will buy about 53% of United Fiber Systems for $178 million in cash, including newly issued stock.
The funds invested will be used to fund the Kutai Chipmill purchase, to expand the group’s wood chip business and for working capital.

Laying fiber optic data transmission cable across the Pacific Ocean is a costly and risky operation. Not just any company with a seaworthy ship can hope to undertake this sort of operation. It takes specialized ships and companies that have developed the expertise to do it right. PacNet, the largest submarine cable operator in the Far East, and SubCom (formerly Tyco Telecommunications) recently completed the latest trans-Pacific cable deployment project using the Global Sentinel, a 19-year-old purpose-built ship. United Fiber System says wholly-owned subsidiary Poh Lian Construction has been awarded a building contract from the GuocoLand Group to build a 12-storey condominium development at Bukit Timah Road.
The project is worth $191 million and the construction period is 30 months.
The project is expected to contribute positively to the group in 2010.
