FEW rural pleasures match seeing a golden field of grain, rustling and ripe for reaping. But the harvest season in the northern hemisphere is being marked by turmoil on global wheat markets.
A big reason is to be found in one of the world’s largest wheat exporters, Russia. Hit by fires and drought which have wiped out a third of the grain crop, the authorities there have banned exports, first temporarily and now until next year’s harvest. As a result, wheat prices spiked: they have nearly doubled since the low point in June of $4.26 a bushel. That has prompted global jitters. When the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) called a special meeting to discuss rising prices, headlines suggested that the world was facing a food crisis to rival that of 2007-08. Riots in Mozambique in recent days, perhaps prompted by spiralling food costs (see article), added more fodder to the fears. …
TWENTY SEVEN TRACK ALBUM FEATURES FIELD RECORDINGS MADE BETWEEN 1964-1967
Rounder Records has announced the release of Louisiana Cajun and Creole Music: The Newport Field
Recordings.
Due September 28, this CD release encompasses 27 tracks on one disc, and is comprised of recordings made over
the
years 1964-67 by Ralph Rinzler, working under the auspices of the Newport Folk Foundation and at the
suggestion of board member Alan Lomax. Rinzler, who later came to head the Festival of American Folklife at the
Smithsonian Institution, arrived in “Cajun country” in southwest Louisiana at a time when the very existence of
Cajun
music was under threat as the forces of the surrounding English-language culture pressed in upon the Cajun
people.
Among the artists included in the set are the Balfa Brothers, Bois-Sec Ardoin and Canray Fontenot, Austin
Pitre, and Adam & Cyprien Landreneau. In subsequent years, Dewey Balfa and Bois-Sec Ardoin were
both recognized with National Heritage Fellowships awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts.
This release contains numerous photographs, many never before published, and extensive liner notes by a number
of
authors which run over 80 pages in the PDF embedded in the disc.

rescheduled dates for their postponed U2 360º North American Tour. The tour, previously postponed due to Bono’s
emergency back surgery, begins May 21 at Invesco Field in
Denver, Colorado, and continues on through Salt Lake City, Seattle, Oakland, Miami, Chicago, and other cities. All
2010/2011 dates are available below.
All tickets for the postponed 2010 dates will be valid at the rescheduled 2011 dates. On sale information for the

Dave Matthews Band has announced that they will close their summer tour with two concerts at Wrigley Field in Chicago,
IL. DMB
will perform back-to-back concerts on September 17-18 at the historical ballpark the Chicago Cubs have called
home for 95 years. Jason
Mraz will perform as support for both Chicago shows.
Tickets for the Wrigley show will be offered to Warehouse members in advance of the public on sale date. The
Warehouse Series 8-2010 ticketing request period will open at 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday, July 2 and will close at 12:00
pm noon ET on Monday, July 12. The ticketing request period is not first come-first serve, all members have the
same chance of being randomly chosen for tickets. Warehouse confirmations will be posted by the end of the day
on Friday July 16. The public on sale for the Wrigley Field show will take place at 10:00 am CT on Saturday July 17
through Tickets.com.
VIP Packages for both Wrigley Field shows will also be available to Warehouse members and will be listed as separate
event listings on the Request Tickets page. VIP Packages include your concert ticket, access to the VIP viewing area
surrounding the house mix platform for GA Field VIP ticket holders, a souvenir laminate and access to a
complimentary PRESHOW dinner buffet. VIP Grandstand Seating will also be offered. The cost per VIP Package per
person is $275.00 plus applicable convenience and handling fees – members may request up to 4 regular priced
tickets and 4 VIP Packages for each of the Wrigley shows.
