IBM`s Social Business Play: 15 Reasons Why the Time Is Right

IBM announced its Social Business strategy at its Lotusphere 2011 conference in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 31. IBM introduced software, services and programs that will help organizations integrate social-networking concepts into business processes to accelerate collaboration, deepen customer relationships, generate ideas faster and enable a more effective workforce. Whether accessing applications on premise, from a mobile device or in the cloud, businesses of all sizes need to communicate and collaborate on the fly across a global network of clients, partners and employees. To fully enable a social business, IBM announced new software to help organizations socially enable their business processes using the most successful mobile devices&#151including tablets&#151such as RIM’s BlackBerry and PlayBook, Apples iPad and iPhone, the multitude of Google Android-based devices and Nokia handsets. Theres no secret in the formula: For the most part, the more IT skills you have, the better pay you get. The following alphabetical gallery lists the top 25 skills in technology with increased demand in pay for the third quarter. These are non-certified skills, meaning they dont necessarily require a technology worker to have a certification, yet they do require experience. These skills were sourced by Foote Partners, a Vero Beach, Fla., technology research company that tracks certified and non-certified IT skills.One certified skill that lost value over the summer was security, which had been the most resilient and consistently growing skill set for four straight years. David Foote, chief research officer and founder of Foote Partners, said the following in an Oct. 29 statement about the first decline and downward trend in security certifications since 2006:

Each year, Gartner Research trots out a short list of top 10 technologies it believes enterprises should be investing in for the coming year. Check out last year’s list here. Cloud computing and social software have reigned the last few years, and so they do again for 2011. Perhaps the most exciting new entrant on the list is the media tablets/mobile apps category. Panasonic Toughbook S9, Rugged Tablet Go On Display

Among the tech products making an appearance at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2010 in Orlando, Fla., Panasonic displayed its recently released Toughbook S9, a 12.1-inch "business rugged" laptop designed to resist 220 pounds of compression and falls of up to 30 inches. Panasonic’s Toughbook line has long been known for its, well, toughness. But the company also seems determined to shave off a few ounces from the traditionally weightier devices: The S9 tips the scales at 3 pounds with a standard battery in place, which isn’t too shabby for a device reinforced with a magnesium alloy case and spill-resistant keyboard. Panasonic also claims the laptop’s battery life at 11 hours, which is also decent. Panasonic executives at the show said the S9 retails for $2,200. While it comes standard with Windows 7, Linux is also supported. Processor-wise, the S9 includes an Intel Core i5 and 2GB of RAM. Also note the distinctive circular touchpad, which is spill-resistant& because it would be too bad to have your laptop survive a fall off a conference table or crushing weight, only to have it doomed by a spilled can of Coke. – …
