Phamily Poker Classic In Atlantic City

A GOOD REASON TO LEAVE MONEY IN ATLANTIC CITY
OVER HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

The Mockingbird Foundation has announced The Phamily Poker Classic, a no-limit Texas Hold ‘Em tournament in Atlantic City to take place in the Tropicana’s poker room on the afternoons of October 30 (tournament) and 31 (final table) the same weekend Phish performs at Boardwalk Hall in AC.

There will be both cash and non-cash prizes, and some of the $120 ticket price (the “buy-in”) will benefit the Foundation. This event is being graciously organized by Phish fan Kevin Young, with the assistance of others including Foundation volunteers, and none of us are benefiting financially from this event.

For more details and to purchase tickets, please see the event’s website. If you play, you will not miss any Phish performances. This event is expected to sell-out. It is unlikely that tickets (seats) will be sold at the door.

Whether you play poker or not, you can consider donating an “ante” or “blind” – $5 or $10 – to the Foundation. Your donation is fully tax-deductible. The Foundation is run entirely by volunteers with very little overhead, and your support goes to music education.

Some individuals will play in the tournament as “bounty players” for the Foundation, with non-cash prizes to be awarded to any player who busts them out of the Tournament (one bounty player per table is expected).

If you have anything that you would like to donate for the benefit of the non-cash prize pool, then please email Charlie@phish.net.

Phish Fans Donate $1 Million For Charity

THE MIMI FISHMAN FOUNDATION AND THE MOCKINGBIRD FOUNDATION RAISE
A COMBINED $1
MILLION FOR CHARITY

Two organizations founded and operated by fans of Phish announced that they have raised and distributed a combined $1,000,000 for
charity. The joint announcement was made by The Mimi Fishman Foundation, which raises funds
through online auctions, and The Mockingbird Foundation,
which publishes historical information about Phish in print and online. Both organizations are operated on an all-
volunteer basis, with no salaries, paid staff, or offices.

The Mockingbird Foundation was organized in 1996, by Craig DeLucia and a dozen other fans, to raise funds for
music education for children through the publication of an encyclopedic book about Phish and its music. Expanding
its efforts to include the cultivation and distribution of Phish-related intellectual property more generally, the
Foundation has published two editions of a 900-page book, released a double-disc tribute album, produced a
variety of tour-friendly merchandise, and re-launched the Phish.net website as a comprehensive database with a dozen mobile extensions.
As a result of these efforts, as well as direct donations, the Mockingbird Foundation has been able to fund 193 grants
(in 42 states) totaling over $613,000. [www.mbird.org]

The Mimi Fishman Foundation was organized in 1998, by Mimi Fishman (mother of Phish drummer Jon Fishman) and family friend David
Shulman, to raise funds for vision-related charities through online auctions of Phish-donated memorabilia. While
expanding its focus of charitable giving to include women, children, and animal-related charities, the Foundation
also expanded its musical reach by receiving donated auction items from other bands, including The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Umphrey’s McGee. The Mimi Fishman
Foundation has administered over 30 online auctions resulting in grants being made to 38 organizations totaling
over $390,000. [www.mimifishman.org]

The Mockingbird and Mimi Fishman Foundations look forward to many more years of serving Phish fans and grantees
alike. Each has already raised the funds for additional grants to be announced this fall, and each is underway with
new plans to continue their success.

Jerry Jams for Rex Benefit Album w/ Phish, SCI, Widespread

MAJOR ACTS HONOR GARCIA FOR A GOOD CAUSE

August 9, 2010 marks the 15-year anniversary of legendary musician and Grateful Dead co-founder Jerry Garcia‘s death. As a way to honor his musical and community legacy, the gifted musicians on this compilation have generously contributed stirring live performances of Jerry Garcia songs to benefit The Rex Foundation. Available in a variety of formats, Jerry Jams for Rex was brought to life by Brad Serling of nugs.net and includes four exclusive previously unreleased live Garcia songs from Phish, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, The String Cheese Incident and Keller & The Keels. Other artists featured on the album include The Black Crowes, Yonder Mountain String Band and more. All proceeds are a contribution to the Rex Foundation.

Furthering what Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead started 26 years ago, the Rex Foundation endeavors to fund grassroots programs that are often under the radar of larger funding entities, yet work in bold, innovative ways to carry out essential work toward a healthy environment, promotion of the arts, protection of indigenous cultures, assisting others less fortunate, building strong communities, and educating children and adults. The Rex Foundation has distributed $8.6 million in grants to over 1,000 programs across the U.S. and internationally, while also carrying out fundraising initiatives that foster creativity and positive community connections. Visit www.rexfoundation.org for a complete list of grantees and information about current initiatives.

Jerry Jams for Rex is possible because of the honorable contributions of music, resources and know-how of the participating artists and people involved in the initiative. The Rex Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the generosity of spirit and action to all the people involved in creating Jerry Jams for Rex, as well as to all the people who purchase the compilation.
