Singapore contractor pleads guilty to 21 fraud charges

Ho Yen Teck, a Singapore Land Authority contractor, pleaded guilty to conspiring to cheat the agency in the city state’s biggest public sector fraud case in 15 years.

Ho, a 31-year-old businessman, pleaded guilty to 21 counts of conspiring to cheat the government. He had been charged with 195 counts. Prosecutor Ong Luan Tze said at a hearing today 174 of the 195 counts were stayed. Ho is scheduled to be sentenced Jan 7. He faces as long as 10 years in jail on each count.

Darco Water’s Taiwan unit hit by fraud

Mainboard-listed Darco Water Technologies, the provider of integrated engineering and knowledge-based water treatment solutions, says the former General Manager, Admin Manager and Accounting Manager of its Taiwan subsidiary, Darco Engineering Taiwan (DET) are suspected of defrauding the company of NT$186.2 million ($8.09 million).

Darco Water says the findings came to light as a result of the investigation by DET to conduct checks on the accounting records of DET after the group suspected earlier this year of possible misappropriation of funds following several extraordinary and large administrative cash advances, unsubstantiated project costs and unusual cost overruns and losses in DET.
