GIC considers more IPOs after sale of Global Logistic, Tan says

Government of Singapore Investment Corp., a sovereign wealth fund with US$100 billion ($128.5 billion) of reserves, will consider selling more assets through initial public offerings, Deputy Chairman Tony Tan said.

GIC, which sold US$2.7 billion of shares in its Global Logistic Properties in October, “does own a number of assets which could be good candidates for listing if the circumstances are right and there’s a need,” Tan said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Weekend Comment Jan 28: SIA disappoints

WITH GLOBAL ECONOMIC growth expected to level off and inflation a mounting concern, Singapore Airlines appears to be facing potential headwinds that could disrupt its flight to recovery in the coming quarters.

The full-service carrier reported a disappointing set of third quarter results after the market closed on Jan 28, falling short of the average profit estimates of analysts tracked by Bloomberg. For the three months ending Dec 31, SIA posted a 29% y-o-y fall in net income to $288.3 million, after it booked charges of as much as $199 million relating to antitrust cargo fines.

Sound Global wins 18 projects in Hunan

Sound Global says it has won 18 projects from a group of urban-rural waste water treatment plants in Changsha County, Hunan province, China, totalling RMB275 million ($53.5 million) in investments.

The projects include the investment, building, operation and transfer of 16 urban-rural waste water treatment plants (with a total capacity of 29,400 tonnes per day) with a concession period of 30 years.

Starhill Global flat; 4Q above view – Daiwa

Starhill Global REIT (P40U.SG) is flat at $0.650, with moderate volume of 1.3 million shares traded after announcing 4Q10 net property income of $36.7 million, +37.0% on-year and DPU of 1.04 Singapore cents, +7.2% on-year.

Daiwa says NPI was 5% higher than forecast, while DPU was 3% higher. “The stronger-than-expected NPI came almost solely from the Renhe Spring Zongbei Property in Chengdu, China, which reported NPI of S$3.38 million (+72% on quarter).”

OCBC initiates Global Palm Resources at Hold

OCBC Investment Research starts Global Palm Resources Holdings (K6J.SG) at Hold recommendation with a $0.40 fair value estimate.

It says the stock looks fairly valued at the moment and has a slightly higher P/E of 16X compared with the sector average of 15.3X, looking at relative valuations.

Bank of America-Merrill Lynch starts GMG Global at Buy; $0.50 target

Bank of America-Merrill Lynch starts GMG Global (5IM.SG) at Buy with a $0.50 target.

The house says the stock offers a 75% potential upside and new target price implies FY2011 price earnings of 15.5X. “Rubber is the new black” and that GMG is the “world’s pure rubber play,” the house says.

Singapore exports to gain on global recovery-action

Singapore’s December non-oil exports are broadly in line with consensus, with the strong rebound from the previous month signaling continued robust growth, says David Cohen of Action Economics after government data show seasonally-adjusted exports up 8.9% on-month after falling 13% on-month in November.
