Leonard Cohen Reschedules European Performances Due To Injury

Leonard Cohen

AEG Worldwide has announced that a run of performances by Leonard Cohen have been rescheduled to allow proper time for a sports-related injury sustained by the artist to heal.

While exercising recently, Mr. Cohen suffered a compression injury in his lower back. He has been advised by physicians to follow the typical four to six month regime of physical therapy prescribed for athletes with similar injuries.

“Doctors have confirmed that Mr. Cohen is otherwise in terrific shape, thanks to years of exercise and careful diet, and simply needs appropriate time to recover from the lower back injury,” stated Cohen’s manager, Robert Kory.

Since his return to the stage in May 2008, Mr. Cohen has played 191 sold out shows around the world, headlined the 2009 Coachella Music Festival and was hailed by Spin Magazine as the “Comeback of the Year” for 2009.

On January 30, Mr. Cohen received the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Special Merit Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) and was honored the following night on the Grammy Awards broadcast.

The rescheduled dates below will be amended shortly to reflect all thirteen rescheduled dates:

09/15/10 Caen @ Zenith
09/17/10 Grenoble @ Palais Des Sports

09/19/10 Strasbourg @ Zenith
09/21/10 Marseille @ Le Dome
09/23/10 Tours @ Parc Des Expositions
09/25/10 Lille @ Zenith Grande Palais
10/04/10 Katowice @ Spodek
10/07/10 Moscow @ Kremlin Palace

The sun is out

It's raining

1136: A few early attacks on the slopes of the Cormet de Roselend but nobody has succeeded in escaping yet – Sylvain Chavanel is the latest to try his luck. This stage is going to be tough enough as it is but it looks like the weather will play its part too – it’s sunny and windy at the moment for the riders, but there is torrential rain at the finish, which could make things interesting later…

Twitter

Lance Armstrong, a few hours ago, on Twitter: "Just heard from Frank Schleck that Jens is doing ok. Good news."

Twitter

Bradley Wiggins on Twitter: "My thoughts go out to big Jens Voigt, hope you’re ok man."

1130: Speaking of crashes, we’ve had another one already – riders are scattered all over the road. You might remember one of them, Vladimir Karpets, from yesterday’s stage. He went down as though somebody had pulled a rug from under him but he’s back on his bike now.

First aid

1127: Some news on Jens Voigt, who you might remember crashed heavily on the descent down the Col du Petit St Bernardyesterday. The German Saxo Bank rider was flown to hospital in Grenoble with a fractured cheekbone and an injured right elbow – his Tour is over, but he seems to be on the mend already.

wooley7 on 606:"Looking forward to this one. Wiggins looked as fresh as anyone yesterday dealing with the attacks, as they came, with ease. Dare we dream that he could match the big boys again today or even try and make a few attacks of his own"

Bradley Wiggins

1121: We’ll be keeping a close eye on Bradley Wiggins too of course – he is still third overall and will be looking to cement his bid for a place on the podium in Paris on Sunday.

Yellow jersey

1120: Alberto Contador in the yellow jersey is sure to face some attacks somewhere down the road, so we will find out if he can fend them off as effectively as he managed yesterday…and, who knows, he may even stage another assault of his own1118: The riders are about to roll out of the neutral zone and get today’s stage under way – they start by going straight up, to the top of the Cormet de Roselend.1117: Today really should be a cracker – there are five climbs in the 169.5km between Bourg St Maurice and Le Grand Bornand, and four of them are category one. There’s only a single short flat section in the entire stage, in the Sallanches Valley – apart from that, the riders will be either climbing or descending all day.1115 BST: Morning all, who’s looking forward to another day in the mountains then<br/

Jens Voigt crash in Stage 16 of the Tour de France

BOURG-SAINT-MAURICE, France (AP) — Alberto Contador rode hard to keep the Tour de France’s yellow jersey in the Alps on Tuesday, while teammate Lance Armstrong produced a dazzling burst of speed to remain in second place.
Mikel Astarloza of Spain won the 16th stage, a 99-mile route from the Swiss town of Martigny to Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Contador [...]

The premier event

How can we keep the Olympic Games as a premier event? This is one of numerous questions that will be debated at the Olympic Congress in Copenhagen between 2 and 3 October 2009, where approximately 900 delegates will get together to shape the future of the Olympic Movement. The recent successes of the Olympic Games in Athens, Turin and Beijing will allow the IOC to reflect on lessons learned and to find even better ways to position the Olympic Games.

The athletes are at the heart of the Games, and at the end of the day it is their outstanding performances that are remembered. Mexico City 1968 with Bob Beamon’s historic jump; Grenoble 1968 with Jean-Claude Killy’s triple medal win; Munich 1972 when Mark Spitz became a legend; Montreal 1976 with Nadia Comaneci’s perfect tens. Not forgetting Eric Heiden, Carl Lewis, Hermann Maier, Björn Daehlie and most recently Shaun White, Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps. It’s these performances and memorable Olympic ceremonies that drive the IOC, Organising Committees, National Olympic Committees and International Sports Federations to work hard to provide the most adapted environment in which to compete and perform. The Copenhagen debate will strive to provide solutions to make the Olympic Games stronger and even more enjoyable. Enjoy watching all the highlights of previous Games in this video.
