Singapore factory ouput spurt points to GDP growth revision

Singapore’s manufacturing output accelerated sharply in September after getting an unexpected boost from the volatile pharmaceuticals sector, likely pointing to higher economic growth in the third quarter.

Manufacturing output grew 26.2% on year in September, according to data released by the Singapore Economic Development Board Tuesday. This was higher than the 18.9% median forecast of eight analysts polled by Dow Jones Newswires as well as all the individual estimates in the poll.

Singapore’s industrial output growth accelerated in September

Singapore’s industrial production rose at the fastest pace in three months, an advance that may ease as a slowdown in world economic growth hurts demand for electronics and pharmaceuticals.

Manufacturing, which accounts for about a quarter of the economy, climbed 26.2% in September from a year earlier, after a revised 7.7% increase in August, the Economic Development Board said in a statement today. The median estimate of 17 economists surveyed by Bloomberg was for a 19% gain.

Singapore Export growth eases as global slowdown hurts demand

Singapore’s export growth slowed in September as shipments of electronics and pharmaceuticals eased, heralding softening demand in the coming months as the global economy weakens.

Non-oil domestic exports climbed 22.7% from a year earlier, after a revised 30.8% gain in August, the trade promotion agency said in a statement in Singapore today. The median forecast of 14 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for an increase of 19.7%.

Singapore economy shrinks as slowing global growth trims demand

Singapore’s economy contracted last quarter as manufacturing eased, and the central bank said it will widen the range its currency can trade in to absorb greater volatility in global financial markets.

Gross domestic product shrank an annualized 19.8% in the third quarter from the previous three months after climbing a revised 27.3% in the April-to-June period, the trade ministry said today. The median forecast of 19 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for a 15.7% contraction.

DBS eyes 20-30% assets growth in big Asia markets

The private banking arm of Singapore’s DBS (DBSM.SI) said on Monday it expects 20 to 30% annual growth in net new assets from China, Indonesia and India, as it gears up for expansion in Asia’s fastest-growing

“The high delta or the high growth markets right now are clearly  China, Indonesia for Southeast Asia, and India,” Su Shan Tan, DBS’s group head of wealth management, said at the Reuters Global Private Banking Summit. “So those are our key focus areas right now.”

Transcu sees growth in cosmetics, green energy

Life sciences firm Transcu Group <TRSU.SI> expects a 10% rise in its 2011 revenue on the back of higher sales of its mineral-ore based soap as it moves away from mail-order delivery to shop-based retail.

The company plans to increase the number of shops in Japan, where the soap and other cosmetic products are mainly available, to 1,000 from 270 within two years.

DMX rides on strong digital media growth in China

DMX Technologies (DMXT.SI) is riding high on its expansion in China’s digital media market, benefiting from the Chinese government’s move to force cable operators to switch from analogue to digital content by 2015.

The technology firm that offers software solutions to cable TV providers and telecommunications firms, is confident that its revenue will rise by 20% this year, up from US$190.4 million ($251.8 million) last year, said CEO Jismyl Teo in an interview.
