Grateful Dead: Europe Â’72 Tour Box Set

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED, LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION

AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT DEAD.NET AND SHIPS IN SEPTEMBER

sketch of new box set

Grateful Dead slipped the
shores of America and crossed the pond for its first-ever major European tour in April 1972. The legendary 22-
show run spawned Europe ’72, a live triple album that remains one of the band’s best-selling and most
beloved releases. A tour this momentous deserves a boxed set of historic proportions and Dead.net has stamped your passport to relive every note from the European tour
with Europe ’72: The Complete Recordings, an individually numbered, limited edition collection
that includes more than 60 discs with over 70 hours of music featuring every show from what is arguably the
Grateful Dead’s greatest tour. The box set ships in September.

Europe ’72: The Complete Recordings is housed in a replica steamer trunk reminiscent of the ones
prevalently used at the time. The travel
chest contains tour memorabilia, a coffee-table book with never-before-seen photos, and a comprehensive essay
by noted Dead author Blair Jackson. Each performance will also be accompanied by an essay specific to
the show written by top Dead scholars including David Gans, Gary Lambert, Nicholas Meriwether, and
Steve Silberman.

Jeffrey Norman, the primary mixer of the Dead’s archival multi-track material for the past 15 years, is
mixing each
show from the original 16-track recordings.

Due to ship in September, the boxed set is available exclusively from Dead.net, which is taking orders now. The
price of the collection is $450, which works out to the remarkably low price of about $20 for each show, or roughly
the cost of a transatlantic flight from New York City to London in 1972 (price of time machine not included).

The first 3,000 fans to order will have
their copy personalized with a name requested by the purchaser. Once the 3,000 order goal is reached by April 1,
Dead.net will continue to take orders through the summer but will limit production of the collection to a maximum
of 7,200 pieces, all of which will be individually numbered. Orders will no longer be taken at some date (to be
determined) later in the summer.

The tour offers a snapshot of a band at the top of its game, still ascending in the wake of three straight hit albums—
Workingman’s Dead, American Beauty, and the live Grateful Dead (“Skull & Roses”). It had been a
year since
the lineup had gone to its single-drummer configuration, six months since Keith Godchaux had been
broken in as the group’s exceptional pianist, and this marked the first tour to feature Donna Godchaux as
a member of the touring band.

There was a ton of new, unreleased material that came into the repertoire in the fall of ’71 and during the spring of
’72, including “Tennessee Jed,” “Jack Straw,” “Mexicali Blues,” “Comes A Time,” “Ramble On Rose,” “One More
Saturday Night,” “Black-Throated Wind,” “Looks Like Rain” and Pigpen‘s “Chinatown Shuffle,” “The Stranger
(Two
Souls In Communion)” and “Mr. Charlie.” (Sadly, this was Pigpen’s final tour.) All those future classics were
interspersed with songs from the aforementioned “hit” albums—such as “Uncle John’s Band,” “Casey Jones,” “Sugar
Magnolia,” “Bertha,” and “Not Fade Away”—and then were topped off by loads of big jamming numbers—the Europe
’72 tour produced spectacular versions of “Dark Star,” “The Other One,” “Playing in the Band,” “Truckin’,” “China Cat
Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider,” “Good Lovin’,” “Lovelight,” and even the early Pig chestnut “Caution.”

Kyuss Reunites Without Josh Homme

THREE QUARTERS OF KYUSS REUNITE

Kyuss

Legendary stoner rock band Kyuss is reuniting without original guitarist and Queens of the Stone Age
main man Josh Homme. The lineup includes vocalist John Garcia, bassist Nick Oliveri,
and drummer Brant Bjork. Guitarist Bruno Fevery will be stepping in to replace Homme, and the
band is calling
themselves Kyuss
Lives
.

In an interview with Blabbermouth, Homme discussed the
possibility of a Kyuss reunion, saying “The offers come in all the
time. They’re getting more and more expensive, and more and more elaborate. The money is crazy, but I’ve never
been tempted – I don’t really care about the money, I never have. That’s not what Kyuss was about, so to punctuate
the end of our sentence with that would be blasphemy…Kyuss has such a great history that it would be a total error.
I like that nobody saw
Kyuss, and that it was largely misunderstood. That sounds like a legend forming to me. I’m too proud of it to rub
my dick on it.”

All announced tour dates are below.

JAMIE LIDELL UNVEILS HIS NEW LIVE BAND VIA VIDEO

FEATURES ALTERNATIVE VERSION OF NEW SONG “YOUR SWEET BOOM”

Jamie Lidell has released a
new video ahead of his album Compass out May 17, which not only unveils his new touring band
but also features a live, alternate take on “Your Sweet Boom,” a highlight of the record.

Check out the video here:

As Jamie himself puts it:

“New York City, 1968. Oh wait – 2010! A nostalgic glimpse into the now as 70s tech hangs with the laptop, Blazer hang with the bizarre and Lidell gets a buzz on about the future shows with an ALL NEW crew of heavy retro pioneers. Practicing here under the hot lights in a shoddily lit Westside cupboard, things are sounding unreal. The soundtrack to this is a lost recording of a new song called “your sweet boom”… never heard before and never to be heard again. 1,2 Zen explosion and we out!”

The new band is made up of Jake Aron (guitars/bass), Ludwig Persik (drums/perc) and Guillermo Brown (perc/rhythm, keys/synths). You can see them in the flesh on Jamie’s worldwide tour – dates below.

Earthless Tour w/ Russian Circles

TWO WEEK EARTHLESS/RUSSIAN CIRCLES TOUR BEGINS APRIL 6 IN HAMBURG,
GERMANY

Earthless

Known for being every other band’s favorite band, Earthless features members Mario Rubalcaba (ex-Rocket From the Crypt, Hot
Snakes, Blackheart Procession, Clickatat Ikatowi) on drums, Isaiah Mitchell (Nebula, Drunk Horse) on guitar
and Mike Eginton (Electric Nazarene) on bass, and deliver one of the best live shows in all of modern,
heavy rock today.

In April 2008 Earthless was featured at the Roadburn Festival held annually in Tilburg, Holland. The festival
is a celebration of tube-driven distortion, crackling electrical guitars and the many fans that come to celebrate the
mighty riff. Earthless embodies the true essence of Roadburn so it came as no surprise that the band was invited to
play in the 2008 edition.

Unexpectedly, Earthless wound up on the main stage of the festival in front of 2,000 rabid fans, mere moments
before they were to headline The Batcave (a room with 200 person capacity). Live At Roadburn came about
not so much by default but out of sheer necessity. When the headlining band at the festival did not use their two
hour time slot on the main stage, concert organizers were left scrambling to find a replacement to fill the slot.

Earthless gladly accepted the opportunity and proceeded to lay waste to all that was surrounding them for a straight
hour and a half of visual mind and audio massacre! Told of the recordings, the band had a few listens and decided
that it was the most honest document that they could offer, for they were caught in their natural environment – the
live show.

Earthless w/ Russian Circles:

Apr 6 Hafenklang – Hamburg, Germany
Apr 7 Patronaat – Haarlem, Holland
Apr 8 Thekla – Bristol, UK
Apr 9 Brudenell – Leeds, UK

Caribou Announces World Tour Release Swim 4/20

CARIBOU ANNOUNCES WORLD TOUR, MERGE RECORDS TO RELEASE SWIM APRIL
20

Caribou

Caribou is pleased is to
announce a world tour beginning in Manchester, England on April 19th. The North American leg of the tour will
begin on May 3rd in Toronto. Merge Records will release Swim, Dan Snaith’s new album, on April
20.

If there is a link to previous album, Andorra, it would be in the ravishing explosions of sound pulsing through album closer “Niobe.” A continuum of sorts leads us to 2010, but that finale gives mere hints as to the future Caribou. From
the opening effervescent gambol of “Odessa” to the glorious odyssey of “Jamelia,” it is crystal clear that Caribou has made a massive leap forwards, upwards and sideways. Swim is full of brightly textured, rapturous gems that gleam with astonishing production – and then wrenches at your heart with soulful, thoughtful reveries on the passing of time, family history and the breakdown of relationships.

This year will also see a dramatic difference in the Caribou live performance. Now that technology has finally caught up to Dan’s ambitions for the band’s show, while it will still be four musicians onstage, the dynamic interplay between visuals, electronics and the live sound is totally pliable.

The band can play the mix onstage like a dub mixer would – but even more so than a Lee Perry because almost everything can be manipulated – not just the things that are controlled on a recording studio mixing desk. They can get that washing-around feeling and the unpredictability of sounds undergoing changes all the time. They say it
takes a few years for the new century to kick in, here we go.
